Hello, well I have some questions that I am hoping someone can help me with. My fiancé lives in the dominican republic and I was just wondering how strict are they? And another questikn is is that we have only known each other for 10 months do we have to know each other for 2 years? I'Ve been to DR 2x n plan on going again in march but anyways sorry im just worried on filling all these forms out because I dont want to get anything wrong and does anyone know the waiting period kn getting the k1 visa from DR is? Last question.. Do they make u both do the interview questions? It's just that I really want him here and im scared that ill mess up this whole process if I mess up on anything. Thanks!!

You do not have to know them for 2 years, you need to have been together in person in the previous 2 years before filing the petition. That is what you will need to provide proof of with the petition.

Have a read through the guide here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

and be sure to read carefully through the instructions for the I-129F form: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf

Dominican Rebublic Embassy is a very tough Embassy. There are many denials for "lack of bonafied relationship". At this Embassy it is very important that you provide detailed proof of ongoing relationship at the time of the interview (copies of your passport that showed you traveled to see your fiance, boarding passes - tickets are no good, need the boarding passes, hotel receipts, atm receipts, as many photos of the two of you together as possible, copies of emails, snail mails, phone records, ect...)

Some Embassies are "easy", some are more difficult than others. Yours is of the more difficult to interview at, but preparing your proof of relationship is crucial there. I HIGHLY recommend you search the forums for posts pertaining to the DR Embassy.

As far as you being together for only 10 months... There is no minimum time you need to be in a relationship. The requirement is that you have met in person within the 2 years prior to your filing of the I-129F petition.

Good luck.

 great advice. DR specific forums will help. You have to go to the interview...some embassies do not require this but the DR is one that does (although they do not formally say this). Read interview reviews to get a better idea of the questions you will be asked and how to prepare.

Follow the guides when filling out paperwork and check, double check, and check again your paperwork before sending it out...even a minor mistake (like we did by sending the wrong sized photos!) can set you back weeks or months.

Lastly, GOOD LUCK on your journey :)

Yes - photos in the I-129F petition need to be 2"x2" US passport style photos. Must be white background.

I recommend when you and your fiance get the photos taken, he gets a total of 8. He will need 1 for the petiton, 3 for the meical and 4 for the Embassy. Getting all done at the same time means he won't have to go back to have additional passport style photos taken for the medical/interview.

Absolutely you should attend the interview in DR. 99% of the time when a visa is denied for lack of bonafied relationship it is when the petitioner os NOT present at the interview with the beneficiary.
