Hello,

I made it to the States! We are getting married on 5th February and we considering going to Hawaii for our honeymoon. However, my K-1 expires on 15th February so would I have a problem getting back into mainland USA given that Hawaii is an American state would the boarder control still consider me to have left the country? Plus as I wouldn't have a marriage license yet (as it takes two weeks to get it) I wouldn't have the documentation verifying that I did indeed get married within the 90 days do you think that it is best left? As I really don't want to risk it! It has already been such a struggle getting here and I know there is more to go with the status adjustment. Please could you kindly advise?

Many thanks and good luck to you all also

I have been to Hawaii several times, and it's just like going to any other state. You don't go through customs or immigration at all. All they check for is that you aren't transporting any exotic fruits or animals to/from Hawaii.

Flights between Hawaii and the mainland US are domestic flights - you will not have to pass through US Customs or Immigration, and you will definitely not be considered to have left the country.

Many K-1 entrants on this board have honeymooned in Hawaii with no problems whatsoever, even without a marriage certificate.

Honeymooning in Hawaii is a very safe travel option for a K-1 entrant, and it would be highly unusual for you to have any issues with Immigration as a result.

I am assuming that what you mean when you say "my K-1 expires" is that your I-94 expires on February 5th. Your K-1 visa is single-use and became void the moment you entered the US, and its expiry date is completely irrelevant.

The worst case scenario would be that your airplane had technical problems and was diverted to a country other than the US. This is not a problem with Hawaii flights because, at all points between the mainland US and Hawaii, the nearest airport is in the US.

DON'T PANIC

Hawaii is in the US, not an issue

FYI your K1 does not expire unless you do not use it to enter the US. Upon entry the visa was CANCELLED and replaced by the I-94. Not an issue for Hawaii anyway but do not go through any other country on the way!
