I'm in the process of purchasing my fiancee's one-way ticket from Cairo to New York. It is not a secret that buying a one-way ticket raises security concerns. I'd like feedback on your experiences with this issue. Have you or your loved ones been grilled with questions by the ticket agent or security? Do they post something in your profile? What have been the main issues?

Or are we being paranoid?

I appreciate your prompt responses.

Have a great day!

It depends on the immigration officer. Since she is coming in on a K-1 Visa I would not worry about it, she has good reason to explain. I do know what you are talking about though. I had a good friend from hong kong who even held a student visa for the USA. We traveled to South American we bought oneway tickets there and back to the usa from other country. I got through customs easy. They made her go through a secondary security check and had her go to a backroom for like 2 hours. But she said no one really talked to her a couple asked her the same questions made her sit and wait. Then just let her go on through. I think they just do it to observer your behavior. So tell your fiancee to be calm and just do what they ask and all will be fine. No way around it.

A one-way ticket raises concerns if you buy the day of the flight, pay cash, have no luggage, and have Syrian passport stamps. Other than that you're fine.

Why do you hate Syrians?

No hate to Syrians. S/he brings up a point. If a USC, goes to the airport with no luggage and purchases a one-way ticket cash to an international destination, the USC would be under a watch list.... at best.

Round trip is usually less expensive!

Having a Syrian stamp in your passport raises security concerns with DHS. Lots of bad guys go there to train, so when you come to the US you get asked extra questions.

Why would a one way ticket raise security concerns? She will be traveling on a K-1 visa, she is not expected to have a round trip ticket, she IS expected to fly to the States and get MARRIED within 90 days. A one way ticket is normal.

Only time anyone buys a round trip ticket for their SO is because its cheaper than the one way ticket.
