Hanukkah’s first night begins with lighting of the National Menorah near the White House

Festivities at the lighting ceremony include musical performances and hot latkes and donuts. This year's celebration will feature the US Air Force Band. The menorah will be lit each night of Hanukkah.

There needs to be MOAR WICCA on the White House Lawn. It would be totally rad, and hordes of emo teens would suddenly develop an interest in US history. It's a twofer!

PRESIDENT Obama HAS ISSUED A STATEMENT THAT THERE WILL BE

NO NATIVITY SCENE ON THE WHITE HOUSE LAWN THIS YEAR.

He claims it is not due to a challange on religious or constitutional grounds.

They ( the administration ) simply have not been able to find three wise men

nor a virgin in the nations Capitol.

There was no problem however finding enough asses to fill the stable.

Would anyone object to a huge Cross or Manger scene out there too?

I wouldn't have an issue with a Manger scene -- it's closely linked to the holiday, as a menorah is to Hannukah. A big cross is another matter -- it's symbolic of the religion as a whole, as opposed to the holiday.

Danno, did you find this National Menorah lighting offensive when Reagan was President? In fact, Reagan dubbed it the National Menorah. This has been going on since 1979 and I don't think there were problems with it all that time? Now it's a problem because there's a black man in the White House?
