Is that what we received when we applied for the marriage license or is that something we pick up from the Courthouse after we're married?

You send off the license you picked up with all the necessary signatures after the marriage and they send you the certificate within 20 days. If you get married where you pick up the license you will receive it straight away.

You pick it up from the courthouse after you are married. Whomever married you completes your license info and sends it into the courthouse. The clerk at the courthouse then certifies the license by putting an official seal on it with their signature.

Note that some courthouses will let you hand deliver the filled in license to get it certified the same day. That's what we did, but make sure they allow it. Not all do.

We got married on Nov 19th. So for the certificate they want us to mail in with the AOS packet, we have to wait to receive it, I am assuming??

Yes, the one in your hand now is marriage license and the other one you are waiting for is marriage certificate. My hubby said the most important one is marriage license as all our info and signatures are there. The certificate comes with only our names but without signatures. I sent both of them with our AOS to be safe avoiding RFE.

The marriage certificate is what they want a copy of, its the proof you were actually married, people here recommend getting a certified copy. The marriage license doesnt prove you are married, it only shows an intent to marry.
