Done for 3 years. Received I551 today, hooray!

Here is how it all went:

Short AOS timeline:

2006-06-10 - mailed I485 and I130 to Chicago Lockbox

2006-06-12 - USPS showed delivery at 4:40am

2006-06-19 - NOA for both I130 and I485 ( date - 2006-06-17)

2006-06-20 - internal update

2006-06-21 - NOAs in the mail, added both cases to my portfolio

2006-06-22 - both checks showed up.

2006-06-24 - internal update

2006-06-26 - biometrics appointment for 2006-07-03 showed up in the mail. Dated 2006-06-22, post marked 2006-06-23. Does not correlate to website activity.

2006-07-03 - fingerprints submitted

2006-07-04 - internal update for I-485

2006-07-05 - internal update for I-485

2006-07-11 - NOA date for the interview on 2006-09-11. Post marked 2006-07-12 from Missouri

2006-09-11 - Interview. Officer "recommended aproval", said there was additional security check after interview. Also said , "long checks" had been completed. J1s and associated docs peaked officers curiosity.

2006-09-14 - I-130 approved, I-485 welcome notice sent.

2006-09-15 - internal update for both I-130 and I-485. Messages remain the same - "approved" and "welcome sent".

2006-09-18 - both I-130 and I-485 approvals arrive. Post marked 2006-09-15, NOA dates 2006-09-14.

2006-09-25 - I-485 "the case has been approved, notice mailed" (same as on 2006-09-14 )

2006-09-26 - I-485 internal update.

2006-09-26 - I551 arrives in the mail. Date 2006-09-20, postmarked 2006-09-23. Envelope was not marked in any way, no "Do not forward" stamp on it.

Previously:

The century that ended, J1 with 2yHRR, courtesy of Fulbright

2006-03-23, applied for waiver at DoS based on "no objection"

2006-03-30, "no objection" from home country

2006-04-05, "Request for Sponsor Views" sent by DoS

2006-04-26, Sponsor views received by DoS

2006-04-27, DoS sent recommendation to USCIS

2006-05-31, USCIS received DoS recommendation

InfoPass to Cleveland CIS to inquire re waiver. Got my A# and case#

2006-06-05, I-612 NOA from USCIS, ( fee waived )

2006-06-07, I-612 approved

2006-06-13, I-612 in the mailbox.

Wow so here is an example of someone who had Fulbright and did a J1 waiver via No Objection. And got it! It would be great to know more (for several friends) but it was so long ago that I doubt @nemu is even checking this.
