Hello everyone!

Firstly my fiance is from the US and i'm from the UK we met in Sydney both of us on a working holiday visa! She was a student before leaving the states so we have to use a sponsor her grandmother is lovely and she wants to sponsor us, she does meet the 125% from her pension but she is 80 years old will this be a problem?? she is our only option!

Also should we hire a lawyer we want to make sure everything is done rite and willing to pay if needed, but i'm not sure if we need to spend all that money does a lawyer help that much is it worth it?

Thank you all so much for reading any advice or your experience's would be appreciated.

sample forms:

http://www.visajourney.com/content/examples

make sure you don't leave any spaces blank on the application place n/a and none in the correct spaces.

two different letter of intent from both of you

all forms that require a signature must be original.

boarding pass proving you met in the last 2 years

a couple of pictures and you should be fine

if your sponsor meets the the 125 percent over the mini poverty line that's all that matters.

NO don't waste your money on a lawyer if you don't have any major issue in your past which can complicate your application just follow all the sample forms on this site and you will be more then fine. I was asking the same question as you back in may and now my interview is next week.

In my opinion the lawyers have been proven to do no better job than any of us. This site is your saviour. All you need to know can be found right here. Save your money for the cost of this process. AND lawyers don't try to cheer you up when the process gets you down as it is a lengthy process.

if you can read instructions and fill in forms then a lawyer really isnt needed i dont think. plus anything your stuck with you can just ask on here and you will get answers from people that have actually gone through the process... and the answers are free. also you was both obviously capable of getting a working holiday visa for australia so i think you will be fine without a lawyer.

my advice would be to read the guides on here and then read through a lot of the posts in the K-1 forum and you will realise that even the most seemingly complicated of problems have quite easy answers.

Her age is not an issue. She will be the CO-sponsor, your fiancee will ALWAYS be the "sponsor" regardless of her income.

You do not need an attorney to fill out the forms and that is all there is to it. If you can read and understand instructions you do not need an attorney and they offer NO advantage in the process. Read the guides her, read the instructions, start filling out the forms and ask questions if you have any here. Review the sample forms here also. A college application is far more difficult than a petition, even an application for a job at one of the "big box" stores is comparable to the I-129f, some are worse.
