My documents as far as emails and text messages are all in spanish. From my understanding I have to get everything translated to english. Is something I can do myself (as far as translating the conversations to english) or do I need to get a professional certified translator? I appreciate any help I can get.

My understanding is that the important docs ( birth certificates, police reports, etc) must be translated by a professional and notarized as exact translations. I would think for emails and so forth, just a simple translation would be sufficient. It would not hurt to submit both the spanish and your translated ones together, just in case someone would want to have someone else do a quick scan to ensure you did not take any "liberties" with them.

Thanks for your reply. I have translated the spanish emails and text messages myself. I had my friend who is a teacher in France translate the birth certificate. She is certified as a translator.

it is not true that a professional to do it. you can translate the documents yourself and attach a statement stating that you are proficient in both languages. i think there is a mock-up on this site in the guides. i translated all of my husband's documents and it was fine. you DO have to submit both the photocopy of the original document and the translation with your statement certifying accuracy.
