Can anyone recommend me a good lawyer or someone who can help me prepare my k1 visa for my fiancee in Indonesia. Plz do not say I can do it myself. I am new at this and I really don't want any mistake or error. I saw online mark wahl or allan lolly. Any recommendations? If you did prepare on your own and you already marry fiancee, plz give me good advise. thanks I also live in NJ, usa

If you can read English and follow written instructions and compare your documents to the Example Forms, you can do it yourself.

I'll charge you 1/2 what any lawyer will charge you.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

Half the time the lawyer will destroy the petition and take your money!! Then you are left with no spouse and a destroyed petition and empty pockets.

The only person who has the most time and the most care about the petition and the work that goes in to it is you yourself. Lawyers do not care about you and do it on their own time and are slow and hold things up. They also make mistakes because all they do is fill in the blanks on the forms with all the papers you do the work to get.

There are many horror storys of destroyed lives and familys on VJ because a lawyer stole money and didn't file anything and lied saying they did. As well as lawyers making horrible mistakes on the forms and the evidence and messing up the entire petition causing people to have to start all over again spending 4x the amount of money to get things done.

I was thinking the same thing i started to hire a company to do my k1 visa payed the deposit of $250.00 and after reading the k1 visa forms i laughed at myself even thinking of paying some one $950 dollars to do what took me only a few mins to do.

Think about it u have to do all the work, u still have to come up with all the doc. and every thing that uscis will require.

First time i have ever done anything like this and i just got my NOA 2 APPROVED ad case number as of today NO problems at all,

save ur money for all the other expenses and pay urself to just fill in the blanks on the form.

if u have questions ask here many many people are more than happy to help.

Have you got a driver's license, sat down, read the manual and passed the written test? If so, you'll probably be fine with the DIY method. The instructions are clear for the I-129f but I admit it looks overwhelming when introduced to a world you haven't seen before.

One thing you'll learn with or without a lawyer: Patience. Whether it's patience waiting for your lawyer to contact you or give you the right info, you being nervous about him/her doing their job, or it's you gathering the right documents. If you have a straight forward and simple case just with questions then VJ members are always there to help you - especially this will be an advantage at the medical and interview stage since an attorney may not always know the specifics of your fiancee's country.

Do what you feel most comfortable with and good luck. : )

 Exactly! There is absolutely no need to hire a lawyer when filing for K1 and AOS.

DO NOT use a lawyer! they do not have any vested interest in your well-being. Ask me how I know. YOu can do it yourself! we're all here to help you do so! its daunting, but yes, if you're willing to put in the time, you can do it. All a lawyer will do is charge you a ton of money to do a half-assed job and with no guarantee they will get you an approval. I strongly suggest you do not go this route! I mean, I guess if you have tons and tons of disposable income and you are willing to let someone else take your life in your hands go for it! Good luck! :)
