I have been driving across the border every 2 weeks for the last 6 months, coming back into the US with my expired green card and extension letter and have not had an issue. Had one CBP as why I filed my paperwork late, told him I didn't it's just taking longer to get new card.

Removal of Conditions: 12/09/2011

ROC check cashed 12/15/11

NOA1 12/13/11

Biometrics 1/6/12 Complete

RFE 9/13/12

RFE package sent back 10/17/12

Card Production Ordered 12/04/12

10 year card arrived in mail 12/10/12

Here's a question. My green card expires 8/9 and I'll be returning from my trip on 8/1. Should I bother bringing the extension letter, or will I be fine anyways? Will they let me cross back into the US since it's within the expiry anyway? If I do bring the extension letter, is a copy of it ok, or do I need the original? Just seeing the potential to lose it while I'm in Canada, and if I could just not bring it that would help. haha

Also zenaxe, I'm going to Southern Ontario :) Splitting time between a small town called Tilbury, and London, and Mississauga/Toronto. :)

I would just have your greencard out and show that but bring the original letter in case they ask you (i can see them asking) about the extension/expiry.

Treat the extension letter with the care and respect of your passport/greencard so you don't lose it. If you get stuck in Canada longer, you would need it to get back in after the expiry of your card.

If you are flying through Pearson, def leave extra time to go through customs. When I went through on my extension letter they made me go to secondary and I spent an extra 45 minutes in there waiting my turn.

Good points. I know I won't be stuck in Canada longer since I have to get back to my job the next day, and also can't afford to change flight plans really, but you never know. And that's good advice for anyone else traveling close to their GC expiration anyway.

For me, I fly into Detroit, and my parents come pick me up and we go across at Windsor via car (it's just under an hour's drive for them). :) It saves hundreds in airfare, literally, since the flight is within the US.

Oh god, I know right? Missed my stamp at POE, lost my medical, etc etc. And this time I'll probably get an RFE for missing a copy of the green card though (at least this one is actually MY fault... lol).

There's been a lot of BS going on overall really... haha I'm about over it! Crossing my fingers I at least get a 10 yr card in time for Christmas. That'd be a nice present.

I hadn't been back in several months - but I saw your note about hitting each other in the face for forgetting something in our packages. Made me laugh. Yeah, I get so focused on all the items I need to have in the package, I forget something, but the birthday was on the original AOS, not ROC. I remember your saga of immigration woes back two years ago. I hope you just get the RFE and can send in the copy of the green card without incident.

Friday, July 27th, I mailed off my DH's ROC to the CSC. Now to wait for them to cash the check and send us our NOA1. Seriously the wait for approval is ridiculous. As I look at the ROC forum for July, there are 20 people going through CSC and 19 people going through VSC. I can only imagine that in real life the numbers to both service centers are equal as well. Why the difference in wait times? I know it is a question that will never be answered, but I ask it anyway.

Just noticed this thread ... Canadian by way of New Zealand :)

Not been very concerned about ROC, not been checking the website constantly this go round. We were airlifted out of AR in early May, to Nashville TN. My husband had a liver transplant the end of May, and has only been discharged 2 weeks ago, to the patient accommodation. We will be here until at least October they say, so I have had other things on my mind.

I filed in October 2011, my noa1 date is 10/27/11, and no sign of anything from them yet.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

cdneh, Yeah for your husband's liver transplant. When my dad died unexpectedly in 2007, we donated his liver and 2 kidneys to three different men. Organ donation is close to my heart because I know three people got to lead longer lives because of my dad's gift of life. I see your ROC is at VSC. I am amazed how the times for processing can be so different depending on where the ROC package is.

I am so happy. I was worried about my DH's ROC package, which I sent out Friday. It finally arrived in Laguna Niguel at the CSC today at 10:48 a.m. Looking forward to getting my DH's NOA1.

Morning, :)

ROC is still 2 months away, but i like to prepare things ahead of time lol. So i have just a couple questions.

Got a question for anyone who has moved a few times since comming to the U.S. and is also doing ROC or has done it. I was thinking, that for each address we lived at (3 total) that i would give a few items with each addy on it. Ie; our first apartment in Des PLaines, a bank statement first page with that addy as well as CC statements etc with that addy for both of us, showing during that year we lived and recived mail finances etc along with utilities, then the same deal for out 2nd address at his parents, and then finally our house we bought. In efffect it would be like a mini package of evidence for each address we lived at. Would this be too much, or would it reinforce the fact that we did live together and comingled our assets life etc for each address? This is of course on top of the other evidence like car insurance policies, home insurance, life insurance, medical insurance which is all in both our names and shows me as a beneficiary, yadda yadda.

Also, my canadian passport is still in my maiden name, do i need to send a copy of our marriage certificate? since all my other ID, is in my married name? Do i have to copy every page in my passport? like the k1 visa, the i-94 any stamps etc or do they just want the bio page and the signature page?

We do not have the title to our house in both our names or the mortgage, not yet anyway. However, i have a copy of an autorization form my husband filled out saying that for the life of the mortgage loan, I am to be allowed to call and deal with it and access any info. Would this be a good item to add to the package?

I hadn't been back in several months - but I saw your note about hitting each other in the face for forgetting something in our packages. Made me laugh. i'm envious of you lila :) your whole process took such little time. you entered the us 2 months after me and got your green card so fast. Stupid USCIS always making mistakes..le sigh. 2 more moths till i can do my ROC. Cannot wait until all this BS immigration stuff is overwith! lol :)

Kimbear, I think you have a good idea. We moved once and I included evidence from both addresses. They want to see evidence that spans your entire marriage, so you definitely wouldn't want to limit yourself to the time in your house. So we had bank statements, CC statements, insurance info, etc. that started with one address in 2009 and ended in another in 2011.

They don't need any part of your Canadian passport. No need to send copies of your Bio page, visa, 1-94 or anything. All you need to send for ID is a copy of your GC (front and back). All you need your passport for now is international travel.

Our mortgage and deed is in my husbands name only. For ROC I sent a little letter explaining why (credit) and included a few supporting things, like our home inspection report in both names and our homeowners insurance in both names. It worked out fine. So I think sending in that authorization would be a good idea, can't hurt!

No problem! You should have no issues getting your name on the home insurance, just have your hubby approve it. As a spouse, all the rights and responsibilities of the policy extend to you anyways. Sparing you all the boring details, the spouse should always be listed to ensure the personal liability coverage extends.
