Hi!

I know the best way to get tax return, is just by ordering the tax transcript from IRS.

However, we suddenly needed a joint sponsor and hubby about to submit the AOS package, and wouldn't really want to wait 10days for IRS to send tax transcript.

So, is the copy of federal tax return (that has multiple pages and all the million details) good enough? We were thinking to just send the main two pages (not the extra papers with million non-necessary details) AND supporting schedules, that is 1099 form in our case. Would this be ok?

Please, if somebody can advice, that would be wonderful! (F)

If you're going to submit a tax return you should provide a copy of exactly what you filed with the IRS. This would include all of the filed schedules but not the worksheets. You wouldn't need to include the 1099s but you absolutely must include the W-2s. If you electronically filed you should also make sure that the copy provided is signed.

For my I-864 I included 1 return and 2 transcripts and it went through no problem.

Thanks Alex B!!!!!

Our joint sponsor is basing on his pension,

I think W-2s are for employed income? 1099 for pension, right??

So just to clarify, the 2 main pages and all the included filed schedules.

As I'm from Europe and bit unfamiliar still with the US tax system, what would be an example of a worksheet, what does it include?

Sorry, silly questions, just trying to make it as clear as possible for our joint sponsor. :bonk:

Form W-2 is a form that an employer submits to the IRS (and gives a copy to the employee) to report income. It isn't a form that an individual submits to the IRS.

Forms 1040 and 1099 (and many others, depending on your personal situation) are forms that an individual submits to the IRS to file his or her taxes. I don't know which form a pension is reported on.

Some boxes on forms 1040, 1099, and all the others are not straightforward. A worksheet is a form that helps you do the math to figure out what to put in those boxes. Worksheets are only to help you fill in your tax forms; they don't get submitted to the IRS.

Your sponsor should provide copies of all forms he submitted to the IRS. However, it's 2011 and there's a good chance he filed his taxes online. If so, he may never have seen the tax forms directly. Those systems are basically user-friendly worksheets that fill out the actual tax forms behind the scenes. However, he should be able to log in and download a PDF file containing everything that was sent to the IRS on his behalf.

(As an aside, I received my tax transcripts only 4 days after I requested them. Since it's free, you might want to request them anyway, in case your sponsor can't find all his tax forms or forgot his online tax login.)

Exactly correct.
