I have sent out I-131 application this morning to cover all bases. I am spending so much time thinking about this whole thing and not focusing on work and school. Hopefully complete the FP for N-400 and I-131 and put the whole thing behind and let things take its own course and happen. Thank you all for your help, support and advice.

Is the the I-130 or the I-131?

I-130 is for petitioning for your spouse, I believe. I-131 is to apply for a reentry permit, refugee travel document or advance parole travel document, to include parole into the U.S. for humanitarian reasons.

Getting difficult to remember all these handles on this board.

It is I-131. I sent out the application today. At the age of 54 I am going back to school in Caribbean to become a Doctor and discover a drug or cure that helps human kind. I am hoping my 12 year old twins will also become Doctors one day and take over the research from me. I very well might get my N-400 processed before I start the school. Just to be safe, I went ahead and sent out I-131 also. I am done with the paperwork. Once the get the FP letters, I'll get the Bio done and put every thing to rest and focus on my work and school. Literally, I could not sleep keep thinking about this whole process and trying to get the court papers from 15 - 22 years old cases. It has been an experience. It is time to rest, relax and move on with the life.

For us, its a petition to bring a relative over, wife did that over three years ago when she became a US citizen for her son. Took the USCIS practically three years to process it where they sent it to the NVC, and no telling how long that wait will be.

We all filed an I-131 at one time or another, I filed for both my wife and her daughter to bring them here, couldn't for her son, he was barely over 21 years of age. Filing for a spouse is suppose to be immediate according to the USCIS. Guess immediate in terms of the USCIS means waiting a full year. I started this process in 2003, 2012 already, wife was advised to wait until she got her US citizen as that would be much quicker than applying as a LPR. Her son is 30 years old already, if he does get married, he is out of the picture as this petition only applies to unmarried kids.

Its funny to read post where someone sent in their N-400, waited two weeks and their check wasn't cashed yet.

Merry Christmas to everyone, would be more merry if our family was together.

Actually, Nick is talking about the I-130 'petition' to sponsor a family member to the US. The OP is talking about the I-131 Travel Permission document that has a variety of different purposes (it is also used as Advance Parole for those applying for a green card from within the US).. In her case it is to allow her to be outside of the country while she pursues her studies and not interrupt her residency in the US. If you are generally applying for US citizenship you file the N400 only - nothing else is needed unless you have special circumstances that require you to be out of the US. There are conditions and restrictions on this permission, all the same.

Good luck ConcordUser, on both the Naturalization and your education. Good for you  !

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Ha, when I make errors like that at home, wife tells me I am fired. But works out okay if I make restitution. Ha, also made an error last Saturday with my three year old granddaughter, she told me I have to take a time out. But I responded to her, for me, a time out is a good thing. Saturday was a rough day for me, so should I take a time out, or am I fired?

Guess with many I-130 problems we are having right now, that number stuck in my brain, yes, an I-131 is entirely different. Covers many different circumstances for reentry into the USA. How long do you have to wait to get US citizenship?

Any way to update the status, couple of days ago I got a letter from USCIS asking me to send them an ID with picture such as drivers license or passport. I have sent them copies of both my passport and drivers license. Now it is time to sit and wait again for several days.
