my wife has her interview in ten days. we do have a three year old daughter.

i thought that everything was going to go fine, but the cr embassy dropped a bombshell on us today.

they have suddenly demanded that i file another affadavit of support for my daughter, even though she will not be coming in the next half year, but will remain with her grandmother and aunt and then come in as a citizen when i file for that in a few months.

i barely made the required financial minimum for me and my wife, and quite honestly this is crushing.

i do not understand why they are demanding this, because of the following below, which is found on the nvc web site;

have i just been reading this all wrong?

Can a petitioner (sponsor) with limited financial resources sponsor only the principal applicant and not his/her spouse and eligible children?

Yes, the sponsor can limit the number of sponsored immigrants to the number of people who actually intend to immigrate at that time. The principal applicant must be one of the sponsored immigrants. The petitioner can reduce his/her household size by limiting the number of sponsored applicants. This reduces the minimum income requirement. The sponsor can file another Affidavit of Support for the principal applicant's dependents later when the petitioner and the principal applicant have more income. The principal applicant and any of his/her family members who may have already immigrated must be included in the household size for the new Affidavit of Support.

The child is your child and thus is always included in your household count no matter where the she lives. You simply misread the form.

Your child does not require sponsorship as she has a claim to US citizenship.

If the child was your wife's child from a prior relationship then she would require a visa and sponsorship to enter the US. In that case you could exclude her from the amount of persons being sponsored.

well, i have 10 days.

i do have a savings account with cash in it i could use i think.

could i add that as an asset at this point?

i'm not sure what i can do in 10 days.

is there any way to push the interview date back?

Cash and other assets are factored at a 3:1 ratio ($3 in assets = $1 in income) If you've got a $5,000 shortfall you would need $15k to make up for it.

If the affidavit of support is found lacking then a blue/white slip will be issued requesting asking for another I-864 or a joint sponsor. Go ahead with the interview.

Certainly do the interview. The embassy in CR is very accommodating, but they will hold you to the income/asset level, and if you are short, they will require a joint sponsor...do you have anyone in mind who could help out ??

i asked my mother and father but they said no. i think it is because they have not exactly been honest with their taxes, and have had no luck getting them to change their minds or ease their fears.

a friend at work volunteered, but after i looked at his tax info he did not meet requirements.

i have a few people in mind, though.

My wife got her brother to co-sponsor, and he sent her all the papers but he's 85$ short.

Just unbelievable.

However, my mother informed me that she might have a savings account with 10k in it where I am a joint-member of the account.

Please tell me that I can claim this to meet the 3 k shortfall i currently have.

Hi, i'm sorry, i think i have similar situation. Me and my son (from previous marriage) we're gonna have our interview in 2 weeks. On the appointment letter that NVC mailed to us, it is stated that we both need to bring out the financial evidences. My husband already sent me complete aos packages, all documents are original.(form I-864 signed by husband, form I-864 signed by FIL, form I-864A signed by MIL) But unfortunately, he didn't mail me the aos package for my son. Is it ok if i just copy all my aos docs to bring to the interview? or my husband needs to mail me another original aos packages?? especially the aos forms.

Thank You :)
