Because this is exactly what USCIS requests when they send an RFE for pictures. One of you and your SO with a newspaper.

can you please show us were the uscias states that because I find that hard to believe?

if that were the case why even bother asking people for proof with pics when they should just send in one picture with the both of you holding a dated newspaper.

They ask for it in RFE letters to people. I have read it many many times on VJ people stating USCIS is requesting photos of them holding newspapers to prove dates and places.

I've heard about this, as well, but I've never actually seen a post where someone quoted the RFE word-for-word and it actually mentioned a ransom style photograph. If seen lots of RFE's where they mentioned the generic "film-dated photos". If you run across a post where someone has quoted the text of the RFE and it mentions this please post a link to the thread.

In the era of Photoshop and other forms of digital trickery, I'm a little surprised that USCIS gives any weight at all to photographs, regardless of what's depicted in them. I've also always been under the impression that they were more inclined to believe photos that were impromptu as opposed to those that were obviously posed or staged.

It's kind of a shame that the RFE thread devolved into a discussion mainly by petitioners and beneficiaries who were worried that they might get an RFE, or people posting what they sent in response to an RFE when they hadn't received any indication from USCIS that their response was accepted. It would be great if we could put together an archive of redacted scans of actual notices people have received from USCIS or a US consulate (so we'd know the exact text of the notice), and reports of what people have sent in response to a particular RFE that was successfully accepted by USCIS or a US consulate.

why in the world would he need a lawyer, so you want him to pay 600 dollars for someone to place a stamp on an envolpe with 2 pieces of paper and a couple of pic in it?

all the uscis is asking him for is the letters of intent. he sent in one with both of their signatures when he was suppose to sent in two separate letters signed.

and in your case even with a lawyer there's nothing that anyone can do if it's in AP all you have to do is wait until they're finish processing your application. I myself am in AP it's frustrating but I have to wait. I know why I'm in AP I thought the uscis was going to send me an rfe, but they didn't so the nvc picked up on my problem.

how come your case is in ap?

no, no , no, don't include pic show you holding a newspaper because some will view it as you try to stage something!!!!

A better alternative is to go to the movie complex and if a block buster is showing take a pic there with the posters that show what's playing in the back ground without it being obvious because anyone that looks at the pic will see the back ground posters and be able to put a year range on it. for example, transformers dark of the moon, even if you did see it you know that it was released in the last 2 years.

This is interesting, A picture like this is exactly what a professional visa service recommended for the Philippines. Now it is not the only pic they wanted but when it comes to PROVING people and date it works very well. And yes it is a staged pic. That's the point of that specific pic. Its kind of like notarizing a signed document. Its the hard proof of the signature.

You still need other pics to show "emotional attachment" if you can show that in a picture.
