Suggest you wait till you receive further instructions when they are done...

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

We were held up in AP at NVC for just under 8 weeks on our K1 a couple of years ago. There is a pinned thread here on VJ, in the National Visa Center (Dept of State)forum. While that thread was closed by Captain Ewok it does have a lot of info about what was going on at the time.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/165644-stuck-nvc-for-ap/

We called them almost every day, and towards the last every day. They said we would get further instructions as well, more than once, but none were ever sent. If we hadn't called we would not have known the petition was in Auckland until packet three turned up.

Times have come down quite a lot since they started subjecting K1's to extra scrutiny at NVC. We were told it was random. Keep calling, eventually they do send it on.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

I would suggest to email them a scanned copy of your noa2 to locate your file plus call them everyday untill you mnl #. What they been telling you is a scripted answer to anyone who calls them, I email them every week plus call them everyday till I get my mnl # :)

Why on earth would you call NVC every day? According to your timeline your petition was at NVC for a whopping 9 days.

For those folks who are truly in AP, there is no shortcut or way to make it go any faster. When the name checks are comeplete and the clearance issued the petition gets forwarded to the applicable Embassy.

AP's occur with a "hit" on one of a multitude of databases that are checked and/or are random. Either way, AP moves at it's own speed and there is nothing you can do to hurry the process.

When you are in AP during the K1 process, you call every day in order to know that your petition has been sent on. They sure as blue blazes won't notify you. You call because sometimes you get a letter, or several of them as in my case, from NVC that says your petition has been sent on when it hasn't. You call every day because you are worried, because you are stressed out, like this process needs to add further stress to the couple's load. Name checks are one thing, and they do check for those, but that isn't necessarily the the reason a lot of K1'####### the wall. It seems there are quite a few more reasons for AP than you are aware of.

You call every day so you can know the instant that this extra step for K1's, initiated just a couple of years ago, is over.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

hear hear ! you hit the nail on the head and thank you for your support! By the way, what are some of the reasons for AP ?

It's normal to wait a month or two. Calling every day is wasting their time as well as your own.

No it isn't normal. Not at all. Most petitions pass through NVC in a few days.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Thanks. The difference comes from actually being stuck there at one time, instead of rabbiting on about something you do not understand.

On the whole, AP at this level seems to be mainly about extra security checks. It is a small percentage of the petitions that come through there. Here is a link that gives some info on the process, be aware that link dates from 2008, and some of it may have changed.

We were told at interview that it was random. They'd only just started subjecting K1's to extra scrutiny back then, and we had no idea at all what was going on. There was nothing on VJ about it at all, and even the lawyer we had told me not to worry about it, that K1's don't get stuck in AP, and that it was an error. He was wrong, and we got rid of him.

There is an old thread in the NVC forum, and although it is closed you can still read the info we put there. Here is the link to that.

There really isn't anything to be done to speed it up. Towards the end of my time in AP, times were getting less, and by the time that old thread was closed for being too big times had come down a lot. Our petition unfortunately held the record in it's time, at just under 8 weeks. I was seeing times 6 months ago of 20 days or less. So, hang in there. In the end they do send it on, and you can get back on track.

A "month or two" is not normal. We were delayed 50 days for "additional processing" or "administrative processing" which are the same thing. We called every few days to know when our case was actually sent on - Its the only way you will know.
