ok. i know this is not the right forum for this but honestly i don't know where to post.

i need to send money and i was wondering if anyone has ever tried ONLINE western union. is it safe? i have been using the usual WU transaction wherein sender goes to a WU outlet, pay out and leave. this time, due to health issues it's best that i do it at home.

has anyone ever tried this online service? pls let me know what you think. Thanks in advance! yes.gif

I use it all the time to send money to my husband(previously) and the family. It is very safe and I actually spent more money sending money stateside than overseas. Just make sure the recipient realizes they issue the money in the local currency not US dollars.

xoom, western union and moneygram all work...the question is what location and what services are available. I've never got online to work for western union because it's international and the amount being sent always refers me to the store or customer service...if anyone knows how to do it online, let me know too. ^_^

As far as safety: Yes it as safe as filling out the form at a local office and sending it... Online is much more picky about all your information being correct - for example if you have changed phones since you opened your bank account they will have issues and call you. This can be an issue also if you have a cell phone and they can't do a directory look-up on you.

WU charges twice to send money: First they charge you a (hefty) fee, then they give you a very bad exchange rate - 5 to 10% or so under the current rate. If you choose to send dollars instead they will tack more money onto the other fee to make up for not getting the exchange fee.

For a one-time thing of nto a lot of money no big deal.. If it is a on-going thing there are much better options.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

just so everyone knows, yes, i did the online transaction and yes, the money got to the right person as hoped for. hehehe. now i'm relieved! and to all of you guys who helped, i really appreciate the effort. the transaction was as easy as 1-2-3. you just have to be extra careful in entering your personal and bank info. and nobody called me to verify. guess all they care about is making sure that there is sufficient fund to complete the transaction. btw, there are options in doing this: either you use ur credit card or debit card (US bank-issued). and yes, it's good for a one-time only transaction coz the fee is not customer-friendly. no0pb.gif

again, thanks so much for all your replies.

Cheers!

I have done online and in person using WU in the past... As stated above,,, there is a big cost difference sending online vs in person.

And yes,,, it is safe. The person picking up the money will need an ID that matches the name you gave WU and a transaction number given

to you.... Before they can receive the money.
