Im about a week away from recieving Packet3 and I just want to know if I am able to schedual an interview with the consulate before I have my medical done? I cant do the Medical now because im not in Australia Im trying to minimize the time between medical and interview date. I read on here that some people are having their medicals done the same day as the interview, so this must be an option?

I'm not sure about having the medical the same day because I had to wait for my results. It was about 4 days before I could pick them up. That was in Brisbane and it was for a CR1.

OUR JOURNEY SO FAR: (dd/mm/yyyy)

18/09/09 - CR1 NOA1

16/07/10 - POE LAX (256 days NOA1 to interview)

27/09/10 - Aussie/American bun in the oven due May 10, 2011

06/01/11 - Submitted change of address online to USCIS. Mailed I-865 for sponsor. Neverending!

05/05/11 - Bouncing baby boy arrives

10/07/12 - Sent I-751

13/07/12 - I-751 NOA1

The consulate will send you your appointment letter via email with the interview date (known as Packet 4) once you have sent them everything listed in the checklist in your packet 3 email, including your police certificate/s, medical, and statement of readiness to be interviewed. However I think some doctors (such as the Sydney doctor) will send the medical results direct to the consulate, so in that case the applicant would not include that in their packet 3. The Melbourne doctor sent the results to me direct and it took about a week to receive them. Which doctor are you going to use?

It might be possible to send an incomplete package 3 (minus the medical) to the consulate and still get an interview date, and then bring the medical results with you once you have them, or have the results sent direct to the consulate. However if they are not there at the interview then your visa will be delayed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Do you have your police certificate for all the countries you have lived in for more than 6 months? This will take longer than the medical results.

I have everything that I need ready to go(i think...lol) , except I havent done the Medical. If I was in Australia at the moment I would go in tomorrow and have the medical done. But Im currently in the USA so it would be good if I could organise an interview date then fly to Australia a few weeks before and have my Medical done, get the results and take them to the interview with me. Saving a possible waiting time of 3-4weeks ect.. anyone heard of anything like being done.?

No I've never heard of it. It will take maybe a week to get your medical results back. Can't hurt to try right? Worst case scenario you get an RFE... I personally wouldn't, but it seems you don't have too many options.

I am (hopefully) getting my medical done the same day as my interview in Sydney. There are no doctors in Adelaide that can do the medical, so my only option is to go to Melbourne for the Medical and Sydney for the interview, or go to Sydney twice, once for the medical and another time for the interview. I emailed the consulate and they said it was absolutely fine to have the medical done the same day seeing as though I am from Adelaide - however i can't book the appointment until I have the interview date. My understanding is that I will have the interview - go directly to the Medical and then the Doctor will send the paperwork directly to the consulate - so i wont get an approval at the interview, but hopefully will get one soon after!

Sydney is usually pretty helpful. You could try emailing them and explaining your situation to see what they would suggest doing since you are having to fly back to Australia for the interview. At least that way you'd know for sure. If you fly back to do the medical (and already have everything else together) you can hopefully send the packet three back to the consulate within the next week. Attach a letter to it asking for the earliest possible interview date. It will take longer than if you can do the interview and medical the same day though but if you can't do them the same day, just make sure everything is ready to go as soon as you get into Australia. But I would definitely contact the embassy and ask what they suggest. They may be able to arrange something like SDuke is talking about. So it would take longer to get the actual visa in hand but it would be less time overall.
