A city where murder is nearly a daily occurance stands a good shot of being named the most violent, crime-prone area in the country. And last year there were 345 murders reported in theDetroit metropolitan area - altogether 1,111 violent crimes per 100,000 residents.

To compile our list of America’s most dangerous cities, we used the FBI’s uniform crime report for 2010, which tallies crime data for each of the country’s metropolitan statistical areas, regions that usually consist of a large city and its suburbs or nearby cities. Because small fluctuations in crime numbers can produce outsize jumps in rates in smaller metropolitan areas, we looked at MSAs with a population of 200,000 or more. We used the FBI’s numbers for four categories of violent crimes: murder and non-negligent manslaughter; forcible rape; robbery; and aggravated assault.

Its all about which area you are in.

As long as you knew exactly where you are, you can be very safe in most places - not sure about Mogadishu

I used to live in Milwaukee which was the murder capital. I strayed one time into the wrong area and a big old Chuck Berry type car followed me for a mile with every turn, and I knew what was coming. I floored it and got out of there.

Local knowledge is the key - oh and don't go in 24 hour convenience stores in the back streets at 2am

I come from near Leeds UK which is pretty quiet and safe - unless you stray into the area where the illegal Jamaican Yardy Boys gangs hang out. Then its not safe. Its very not safe.

I think am agree with you. In Jakarta, there are some places just like a ghetto and people would not dare them selves by walking there even in daylight..
