Hi.

I was wondering, if anything happens, for whatever reason, and my spouse who is the petitioner and lives in the US (US citizen)is not able to send the I-864 form and supporting documents in time or at all, does it matter if I mail the form and documents? All the necessary forms signed by my spouse beforehand of course and sent to me.

I am currently outside the US living in my home country and I was wondering if it makes a difference since the envelope might have my name and (foreign) address on it in case my spouse cannot send it for whatever reason. Anything can happen at any given time and I'd like to be prepared and not leave anything to chance.

Thank you!

I'm sure that's fine. I've done all the heavy lifting for the paperwork, and my hubby pre-signs everything, and we've encountered no issue.

Oh that's great news, thank you for your replies!

Since it won't matter then, can I also send the I-130 package as well? Or that might not be acceptable since my US spouse needs to "invite" me and the money order needs to be drafted at a US institution, etc?

I'd rather send everything by myself (a bit of a control freak), but I don't wanna push the envelope too much.I'm afraid they might return everything back and that will just add to the already huge amount of waiting/processing,not to mention it might hurt my case for whatever reason these people can think of :/

I really don't think they look at the return address on the envelope. These things are processed at receiving facilities and distributed to the processing centers - by the time the CA or VT or TX centers receive our things, they've already been opened, processed, and inputted. What matters is who signs what and all of the evidence provided.

I can totally relate to feeling like a control freak over this stuff. My hubby was a bit short-handed in the organizational skills department, sometimes I wish I could zip myself into his skin and go to his interview for him, too.

As long as you include a check from a US bank, it should be okay, because who's to say he didn't mail the package himself?

The payment has to be in USD and drawn on a US bank. Where it is mailed from is of no consequence.

*respectfully snipped*

(bolding mine)

Amen to that. :P I'm really fighting the urge to require my husband to FedEx me his police report and birth certificate once he gets them so I can be totally sure they'll get to the interview. (The power of OCD compels you! *throws holy water*)

Holding my nose and jumping off the cliff.. hope I don't hit any rocks in the water.
