Hi, I just realized that I didn't know the difference between AR and AP, I keep reading about both of them simultaneously and however I do not understand if they are the same thing. Can someone shed light on me about that? Before Whenever we called to DOS they always said your case is in AP and they never give any details, but last 2 calls were different, both times DOS said your case is under AR and they are working on it right now and they are trying to determine if you are qualified for the visa or not, they haven’t decided yet either you are qualified or either you are not.

AP is a blanket term that covers even AR, kind of like an umbrella... AP is the umbrella and then so many things are under it... it includes all the checks and includes even administrative review. It sounds as if (I may be mistaken) they are concluding your case and doing the final review to see if they can issue visa. They may put all the pieces of your checks together at this time and confirm all your back ground checks. I have also read that they have a meeting at the embassy to determine results of the checks....

I hope that is the case for you anyway... we are a month behind in the interview and the ap while we understand and will try to be patient as we go thru it....it can be heart breaking and depressing not being with your loved one for each and every morning and night.

It all depends actually... we had to submit a document clarifying my child support income and who lives in the house with me so they didnt do anything until they reviewed that and then we had the co call and do phone interview on july 25th with me here in the states a month n half after his interview... after he was satisfied he told us our case is fine and we have nothing to worry about and they have to do one last thing which is name checks...once that is complete the visa can be issued.

Sometimes they do name checks bfore the interview or right after or in our case once our name check wasnt requested until the new docs were reviewed and accepted.

at the interview they did keep his passport and gave him the pink token to send docs and to receive his passport.

so your case is undergoing name checks, I have heard that if the name is common then it could take a while to clear from their system, it called NNCP it could take 48-72 hours to clear or 30 to 120 days, They never contacted us after the interview, neither they asked any more documents, at the time of interview CO said the same words to me, everything is fine and your interview is completed, all we need is some office work,

AP = catch all clean up (of the file).

AR = Deeper / thorough review including additional (petitioner) background check.

I agree with EAbbas that "AP is a blanket term that covers even AR, kind of like an umbrella... AP is the umbrella and then so many things are under it... it includes all the checks and includes even administrative review"

Every embassy is different. For example, at the embassy in Jordan they specifically use AR for internal stuff; such as, document checks and verifications and they use AP for background and name checks. The DOS on the other hand will tell you that you are in AP, even when the embassy is verifying documents. I had finally asked the DOS what the difference was because the embassy was emailing me that I was in AR and DOS was telling me that I was in AP.

Waiting.....Waiting....waiting....waiting....and more waiting..........
