Hello,

I have just begun the process of completing the I-129F and was hoping that someone could help with a few points. My fiancee is a Russian citizen but she has been living and studying in Austria for about four years now. For her address (#2) I indicated the address in Austria and for her place of birth and country (#3) Russia, as would be logical...

I assume for question #16 concerning her name and address in her native alphabet, we would type her name and current Austrian address in cyrillic. Is that correct?

But I became worried upon reading question #20, the location that she will be applying for the Visa along with the parenthetical warning about embassies outside of her last place of residence maybe not accepting the application. I always assumed she is applying in St. Petersburg, Russia, her hometown and place of birth. Is this correct or will she be interviewing in Austria where she has been living and studying?

Advice and help with any of the above concerns is greatly, greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance!

She would normally be interviewing in Austria, as this is her residence at this time. But if you already know she will finish her studies and be back in St Petersburg by the time the interview comes around, you can put that.

Thanks for the response! I just scanned the US Embassy website in Vienna, Austria for information and it says that:

The Immigrant Visa Unit in Vienna, Austria processes immigrant visa, K and V visa cases for Austrian citizens and third country nationals permanently residing in Austria, as well as Iranian immigrant visa cases. (Emphasis is mine)

I'm assuming her status as a student doesn't make her a permanent resident... Maybe I should complete the entire application using a more permanent address for her and her family in St. Petersburg? Again, many thanks for any advice.

The interviews in Russia will always be in Moscow, by the way.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks so much for your information! I'm now looking for advice concerning question #16 on the I-129F, her name and address in her native alphabet. Her current residence is in Austria, but her address on her passport is in Russian. On the form, I typed her name and passport address in Cyrillic. I assume they will want to check this address because it will be the one appearing in the native language. I clarified this decision on an attachment and, to be comprehensive, I will type the current address in Austria in Cyrillic on the attachment as well.

Does this sound like a proper approach to this question? Many thanks as always!
