Fellow VJ members,

I. Situation:

--I am gathering supporting evidence for I-134 in preparation for my fiancee's interview.

---One financial resource evidence [as stated on I-134 instructions] is "statement from my employer on business stationery showing (1) date & nature of employment; (2) salary paid and; (3) whether position is temporary or permanent."

--However, My office's HR department only provides a standard automatically plain-text e-mail which includes date & nature of employment plus salary .

II. My Questions:

(1) Will the plain text e-mail format (ie., no business stationery) be acceptable?

(2) Will the missing information (temporary or permanent position) be problematic/of concern?

Thank you in advance for any knowledge, insight or experience you may have which addresses my questions.

Yes, this is a concern. You do need signed original letter from the employer. I recommend going to your supervisor and asking for it. I myself an employer and can tell you that this should not be a problem. They have to be able to provide such document. E-maul just does not serve as a document since it can be forged.

I have to wonder about this, i mean, come on, stationary? is this 1980? I work for a huge corporation, everything is done electronically and printed on typical printer stock. My employee verification letter is electronically signed with an 800 number at the bottoms should they have any questions. I don't even think we have any actual stationary.

San Diego - I appreciate your reply and your perspective. I work for a very large company and our HR department's automated employment verification email system is a "one size fits all approach." Obviously, this approach can not address all needs. For literally a week now, I have been going around and around with various company personnel in order to try to meet the I-134 employer support evidence exactly as stated. However, the company's official directives (e.g., must use the company-approved e-mail employment verification system) to supervisors and employees have me currently trapped in a rather inflexible box. Even after showing HR department head I-134 instructions, that person wanted me to prove what I was asking for was absolutely necessary. Thus, the reason I put out my original questions here on VJ, the reasons being: (1) seeking one avenue of proving this need and (2) if my company won't let me out of the box, hoping others might be able to suggest solutions/an answer from their own experience, insight, and factual knowledge. Thank you again for your input.

Jimbo - Yes, I exactly understand your point. That thought about stationery occurred to me as well. Unfortunately, my company's automated e-mail system outputs a simple plain text e-mail (which HR refers to as a "document"), with no digital/electronic signature, and with no 800 number--or any number--to call, no ontact info of any kind. I pointed these things out to HR department head who was actually quite surprised and did not even realize what the output of their own employment verification system was! One of my concerns, as I politely explained to the HR department, was that I or anyone else could easily generate such a "document" with bogus information and their method certainly seemed to be lacking in a method of bona fide verication. Their reaction was to prove that I really needed the information as described on the I-134. (Maybe I should come work for your company  --they sound like they have their act together.)

Out of curiosity, when/if you supply your own employment verification for the interview at the embassy, will your employee verication letter, digitally signed, be directly e-mailed to the embassy? And if so, what is the proper e-mail address which to direct this information?

BTW--Many Congratulations to you and your fiancee on the approval of your I-129F petition! I hope the next steps in this process and especially the interview will go well and smoothly for you!!!

I just post the same question recently. Dude, if your W-2's, Check Stubs and prior tax returns can substantiate your income, no worries. I provided a letter explaining my companies policy. Don't sweat it. We live in a litigious society these days, the Counselor should understand that.

Leo--Thanks for the response! I had wondered if Check Stubs, W-2s, and tax returns should suffice. I have a tendency to want to over-prepare, though. I very much like your idea of providing an explanatory letter to consulate. Thank you for the response and for the encouragement!!

Zombie thread closed; recent post split into "Supporting Documents for I-134" thread in the K-1 Process forum.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
