Hello friends,

I have interview in Montreal soon, I noticed by US Immigration Dr. that my blood pressure is high, I would like to know if officer can fail you because of having blood pressure? My blood pressure is 140/90 what can I do in case? I would appreciate your input if some one has experience and let me know!

Don't worry. The point of the physical is that you are not going to adversely affect the health of US citizens (and other residents). Your blood pressure isn't contagious, it isn't going to cause you mental issues such that maybe you attack someone in the street nor are you addicted to anything. For the history of the physical, think back to the days of Ellis Island and people coming from Europe with all manner of communicable diseases. The US govt needed some way of observing the new immigrants and isolating those who were a risk.

Your blood pressure is only slightly high and should be very easy to control. Just find yourself a good family doctor when you arrive.

They are more worried about you carrying infectious diseases i.e. TB.

Having high blood pressure is not a warrant to deny you in the health screening portion of the interview process.

Focus your attention on the other aspects of the interview.

Good Luck!

I have no idea what they'll actually ask. We're off to Montreal on Sept 14th and my wife is dealing with the last of the vaccinations and the physical next week.

I did my GC interview back in '99 or so with the USCIS, not a consulate, because I adjusted status from H-1B. With my physical they found I had a latent TB infection. It still didn't derail anything. The worst of it was 6 months of no beer because of the drugs I was given by the county health dept.

You can't fail an interview because of blood pressure, don't worry. My BP reading was higher than yours at my medical exam. I actually had a bit of a tough time with the BP readings... they had to check it 3 times, and the lowest reading they got was higher than yours (and way higher than it should be for my age. I was REALLY nervous!) But it was never mentioned at the interview.

I know everything is really stressful right now, but I really think the worst you could expect at your interview due to your blood pressure is for you to be asked if you'll have health insurance once you move. And even that is extremely unlikely, I think.

Thanks Holliday,

I appreciate all your input. I am waiting for the physician in Toronto to call me to go and pick it up my package. Do you know if you have any medical problem or missing something they will let you know or not?

Again I appreciate!

Nothing to worry about. 140/90 isn't that bad anyways

Yes, when he send me to my family doctor to check he said same thing, "nothing to worry" otherwise he would give me some medicine.

Thanks for your comment, I wished I could find someone who had interview in Montreal to share the process and interview question over there!

Get your BP controlled, does not apply to immigration.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
