Hey All,

I am dual US/Egypt Citizen and got married in Egypt under my Egyptian Citizenship understanding that America will not recognize this marriage. I received a legal marriage certificate from Egyptian authorities, etc... I applied for a K-1 Fiancee Visa and got i-129f NOA2. But now the USCIS and State Department are telling me to apply for a CR-1 since I am already married. My problem is now I am in the states and want to apply for i-130. I hired a lawyer and explained to him that I got married as an Egyptian. He said that is fine since I have to submit and legal Egyptian marriage certificate.

Would the USCIS accept this certificate for processing? Or do I have to go to the embassy in cairo to get it approved and make it "american"?

You were misinformed. Married is married. Can't do a K1.

The marriage certificate is Egyptian because that is where you got married. There is no "Americanization."

People get married under water, while jumping off an airplane, in a hot air balloon, and even in a pyramid in Egypt.

Uncle Sam doesn't care where you got married, only that your marriage is valid.

As a married man, you need to apply for a spousal visa for your wife. In America, you can't petition for a spouse if you are already married, not even if you are a Mormon or Muslim and desire to have more than one wife.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

You can submit the marriage certificate, but it will need official translation....You have the standard marriage certificate with two photos at the top and correct seals. Did you have them translated there officially? Where you married before or is your first marriage?

This is my first marriage and I will have it translated here in the states officially at a certified translation office. Yes, it is the certificate with the two photos, etc...but it says my nationality is Egyptian since I did not use my US passport. I believe it is valid to use for the I-130, because clearly it is me. At least that's what my lawyer said.

they do not care what nationality u used for the marriage , u r a U.S/ egyption citizen translate ur marriage certificate and print the 1-130 application for CR1 visa ( supose visa ) u will submit a copy of ur american citizenship passport or naturlization certifcate plus the marriage cert in arabic and the translation of it after notarizing it will take like 5 month and then either they will approve it or they will ask u for more evidence to prove that she is ur wife in fact they ask to send them more evidence that she is ur wife ( and yes ur marriage certificate is not enough for the USCIS to be convinced that she is ur wife ) they need more evidence to show its an ongoing marriage realtioship like joint bank accounts lease contracts wedding pictures . DO NOT DO K1 VISA it will be denied .
