Hi,

I am currently working in US on a L1 Multiple entry visa. My wife is here on a L2 Multiple entry visa with EAD. We want to visit Canada and want to know if re-entering US will have consequences if any.

1. Does if affect my work authorization in any way upon re-entry to US ?

2. Does it affect my wife's work authorization ? Can she continue to work with her existing EAD or does she need to re-apply ?

3. Will we be issued new I-94 ? Will that affect us in any way ?

Any help on the above is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ashwin

On the first two no; on the third unlikely (as Canada's customs/immigration officers--both at borders and airports--seldom collect I-94's).

The only real question (which C-W asked) is whether you have a valid visitor visa to Canada.

2005/07/10 I-129F filed for Pras

2005/11/07 I-129F approved, forwarded to NVC--to Chennai Consulate 2005/11/14

2005/12/21 Visa Interview Date

2006/04/04 Pras' entry into US at DTW

2006/05/01 AOS Packet (I-485/I-131/I-765) filed at Chicago

2006/10/13 Pras' I-485 interview--APPROVED!

2006/10/27 Pras' conditional GC arrives -- .5 to go (2 yrs to Conditions Removal)

2008/07/21 I-751 (conditions removal) filed

2008/08/22 I-751 biometrics completed

2009/06/18 I-751 approved

2009/07/03 10-year GC received; last 0.5 done!

Thanks for your replies. I have started the formalities to apply for a Canadian visa. I was concerned about re-entry.

While Canadian immigration officers may not collect your I-94s, when you return to the US you probably will be re-issued new I-94s although they should be for the same date as your current multiple entry visas. The I-94 is an entry/exit visa so every non-US citizen or Canadian citizen is supposed to receive an I-94 or an I-94W upon entry to the US. They may or may not take your existing I-94s.
