Hi, Is there a way to just go to the Embassy in Bogota and consult with a Visa officer before you have an active application or appointment?

I'm there quite frequently but we haven't filed the IR-1 yet because of my Wifes' work responsibilities in Bogota, and I just want to talk briefly to an officer at the window.

The Embassy web page doesn't offer a specific category for unsolicited walk-ups which is essentially what I would be!

Thanks!

Don't know about Bogota, but that is exactly what we did in San Jose, Costa Rica, and they were very helpful, telling us about several ways to jump start the process while we wait for the interview date. We got the medical done, the police report, and collected the precise information they will want in a few weeks.

In CR, they have specific times when you can go to the windows without an appointment--in their case, you get a little ticket from a machine that categorizes why you are there, and they took us in order by category--very quick, and they were very friendly. And remember that a USC can go to any embassy at any time and ask for an appointment--in our case we went together.

Too bad we all cant move to Costa Rica. In Thailand my husband was told they "refused to prescreen cases" so no questions were allowed.

They had a room with the number system but what could be asked about there couldnt include any questions about visa realted matters.

Hopefully its different in Colombia.

try e-mailing them. Look in the embassy portals. I'm pretty sure you HAVE to have an appointment to go in the embassy.
