Aloha,

In supporting documentation for the N-400 (marriage related, one option is -

Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past three years

Exactly how does a copy become "certified"??

Phone the IRS and get your transcripts from the last 3 yrs (this is what they mean by certified...came directly from the IRS) - they mail them to you in 7-10 business days and most of us have gotten them even faster.

Sorry - the exact number escapes me at the moment but someone here will chime in. You'll need both your SSN and your husband's when you phone.

When we sent mine, I only used xerox copies of our ITR for the last 3 years, it's not even certified true copy at all. I didn't think we had any problems at all.

N-400 NATURALIZATION

04/06/2011 - Received

04/07/2011 - NOA

04/07/2011 - Check cashed

04/14/2011 - Biometrics appointment in the mail

04/21/2011 - Early Biometrics (was scheduled on May 4, 2011)

05/09/2011 - Case Status Notification - In line for interview and testing

05/10/2011 - Case Status Notification - Interview scheduled

05/14/2011 - Interview Appointment Letter in the mail

06/21/2011 - Interview Appointment Date

06/29/2011 - Case Status Notification - Placed in the oath scheduling que

08/16/2011 - Case Status Notification - Oath ceremony scheduled

09/15/2011 - Oath Taking - good riddance!

09/23/2011 - Applied for Passport

10/08/2011 - Passport in the mail

10/17/2011 - Certificate of Naturalization in the mail -- OFFICIALLY DONE!

i submitted my (original) copies with my N-400 application, and just put copies of the copies into my own file.

Frankly, the I.O. will just spend 6 to 8 seconds on having a quick look at them, mostly checking that you filed jointly indeed. The whole marriage thing is not an issue anymore at the N-400 stage. Trust me.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . I think it may have been 4-5 seconds actually ;) JustBob is right - it's a formality honestly, my IO last Weds spent minimal time on my evidence (I think she was late for a smoke break)
