So, tell me again, why does some one have a personal need for a semi-automatic hand gun? I guess I just have too much common sense to understand THAT one.

Same reason the police carry them; defence against armed scum-bags.

I'm for banning guns and legalising the carrying of swords - those were the good old days.

Or perhaps everyone should wear a dynamite vest and carry a 'dead man's trigger', when they leave their house.

aha! i knew it, erekose is a democrat! :P

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Guns are ungentlemanly. Nothing wrong with a nice sword-stick to 'run the buggers through'.

Well that's the more 'hack and slash' way to go - back to the days when thick-thewed barbarians hacked divots out of each other with big phallic broadswords.

Ever read Snowcrash?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Nope - Its looks similar to some of William Gibson's early stuff. I prefer PDK:

The Man In The High Castle

There is the comparison to William Gibson. Snow Crash is a great read.

Man in the High Castle looks good.

Gibson's new stuff is ######, but PKD is well worth reading. The guy has some seriously interesting ideas - although his later stuff gets progressively strange as the author started to go crazy.

Thank God they shot this clown in time..

This sort of ####### will continue to happen until we wake up and smell the coffee and restrict the ###### that comes out in the movies and in video games, which is polluting peoples brains.

Blaming guns is a joke. It would be like blaming roadside bombs rather than the brainwashing terrorists get from a delusional ideology..

Movies and video games? I don't think so..

This probably won't be up much longer, got it in a cache; but the shooter was a ticking time bomb, and clearly by reading his page on this vampire freak site, full of himself and waiting to live out this fantasy.

shooters personal page

It still amazes me how people can actually think that dark marilyn manson (rather than goth, because this is not goth) is actually somehow cool

My son has a profile on this site....weirdos paradise....

Guns don't kill people, Canadians kill people

That's not even funny. I'm sure we all know there are way more people carrying guns in the US than there are in Canada. It's an unfortunate event. I had 2 friends stuck inside the college and couldn't get in touch with one of them for 4 hours. It was an awful experience and jokes are pretty insensitive at this point.

Yes, you are correct as I've been flogged already, and I apologize again for saying it. When I saw the story on television they hadn't mentioned anything about anybody other than the shooter being killed and I didn't read the story as posted on V.J.

Guns don't kill people, Canadians kill people

Fukc you, just what the hell is that supposed to mean? If you were trying to be funny, it didn't work, ok?

Sorry.

I have so many books that need to be read..... I love Larry Niven's old stuff (especially the known universe). I read almost everything he wrote. But I don't really like his newer stuff.

The gun registry had problems but the reason that legislation is being proporsed to scrap it has nothing to do with its effectiveness - it is totally politically motivated. The current Conservative - ahem - Alliance - party is the equivalent of George Bush's gun-totin' hard core Republicans and they never wanted any legislation to begin with. They apparently have no problems with children having access to firearms. If you talk with the police forces in Canada you will find that they support the firearms legislation and use it regularly. It's reputed lack of effectiveness is a political statement only from those who opposed the move for responsible fire arms use in the beginning. You can look up the statistics on line if you don't want to take my statement at face value - they are there. The cost, yes, we can talk about the cost. Instead of passing the costs on to the public for the first 5 years which is how it was originally designed and what the original cost was based on, the government absorbed the cost of registering firearms to encourage people to comply with the legislation so all anyone had to do was fill out a form and send it in. The costs remained the same except the payer changed. There was also a well-advertised campaign by the same party currently in power - and then in opposition - to encourage people to send in falsified fire arms records so that they would encur the same cost as accurate ones but would have to be redone or discarded when the security and acvcuracy checks discovered the errors - which they did - and effectively doubling, tripling and quadrupling both the time costs and the expense of the program. Charges were filed against certain individuals and at least one Alliance MP was forced to resign due to his role in this illegal scheme. Costs were under-estimated, but as with any new program , the high-end costs are all up front (purchasing computers, hiring and training personnel, etc), and now, after the system is virtually up and running, and is working (if you listen to the individuals using it - the police services - instead of the politicians who are trying to earn political brownie points with their constituents who never wanted it), they are trying to dismantle the whole system. The legislation still hasn't made it to the House of Commons yet, and it is no sinecure that such legislation will pass. If it does, that will be the real crime against Canada and Canadians.

And, before anyone feels I am just anti-gun - I am not, and was a properly licensed firearms user in Canada. I participate in the hobby of historical re-enacting, but I sold my musket before I moved to the US. And, as a Museum professional for 25 years I was responsible for a number of both restricted and prohibited firearms that were all properly registered and stored in my museums' collections, as well as making sure that all my staff were proiperly trained and licensed in their care and handling.

As mentioned before, the main component of the Firearms legislation was to legislate against irresponsible, stupid people who left loaded guns available to children and untrained, casual users, or who had already indicated that they were a threat to use a firearms in an illegal manner. It is a shame that we have to try and legislate against stupidity and irresponsibility, but appealing to people's common sense just wasn't working - maybe because some of those fire arm users are just idiots to begin with. I am sure you all feel so much safer here in the US knowing that those firearms are still in the hands of those idiots here along with the good and responsible firearms owners and users. Every day here I read about some young person or another being shot or another drive by shooting or home invasion killing people, some with their own firearms. So, tell me again, why does some one have a personal need for a semi-automatic hand gun? I guess I just have too much common sense to understand THAT one.
