Hello,

My fiance and I have been together nearly 5 years and will be married in the fall (I am a USC and he is a Canadian citizen). However, we are both postdocs (we met while getting our PhDs) and currently live 3 hours away from each other. This situation will last for another 1-2(max)years until we find permanent positions. The reason we are getting married before we can live together is for family reasons (my mother's health is not too good/want her to see us get married). We see each other nearly every weekend, travel together for holidays, are close with each others families, email/call several times daily, have joint bank accounts, a joint cell phone plan, and will add each other to our life insurance benefits soon.

But, we will still be living in different cities while we apply for AOS for my future husband, I just want to see if anyone has had any experience with this? I know this would usually be a red flag for the USCIS, but we can obviously prove we have a real relationship. Any advice will be helpful and appreciated.

It is definitely a negative factor, but it can be overcome. You will just be prepared to explain the reasons for the arrangement. I have seen other people on this board in the same situation who were approved. Good luck!

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
