Hi Folks,

What is your experience applying for 1)passports and 2)getting police records and 3)make-up birth certificates records in China?

1.Can you get a passport or obtain police records easily in China before having the GZ Consulate packet 3 letter in hand?

We would like preemptively get these items prepared. What evidence do need to provide that you legitimately need these items.

2.Are both obtained from the GongAnJu of beneficiary's Hukou? Did any members experience trouble of getting these two items if his Hukou is in a more remote region, not a big city? How fast is the process?

3.Also anyone have comments on what course of action they took if birth certificate is unavailable in China. how did you obtain a make-up copy.

Thanks!

She needs to go to the area of her Hoku, no matter how remote. They do not do these papers on the first visit, and generally do not have an expedite process. She will have to go at least twice, once to apply, and once to pick up.

If there is no birth certificate (common in rural areas) she needs to visit the hospital she was born at. In some cases, her Father (or Mother if deceased) need to accompany her to the hospital.

My fiance got the certificates easy enough for free I think, but at least not much money because she never mentioned it. The Government notary guy wants 1000 yuan for his part with the documents and she thinks that 1000 yuan is too much. She wanted to do the translations herself. She's trying to browbeat him down to 500 yuan now.

I think we paid 300 RMB for each translation. Is the 1000 RMB for all or just one.

As for the Birth Certificate for my wife, they just created a statement from the Houkou listing place of birth, birthdate, parents names. The translation is not from a seperate document.

If she no longer lives in the same city as her Hokou, she can have a relative who is listed in the family book pick request and pick up the police certificate. My wife's sister did this for us without any problems.
