Sea Levels Rising at Fastest Rate in 2000 Years

Well aren't you the climate scientist now. You mean a resulting land uplift from less ice mass on the continental landmasses (and where does the water go? HINT: oceans)? Yeah, think about that statement for a minute and the thing your denialist blogs are calling a fudge. It seems you might be confusing them. On that note however, consider that is part of the mechanism that allowed the Americas to be populated. Its not uplift that the net sea level change argues. ;)

As usual, I think you missed the point. The IPCC argument is suggesting the lack of measurable change in recent sea levels is due to glacial rebound increasing the size of the basin due to magma shift from the sea beds to the surface land. Hence, the fudge factor.

IPCC is first introduced here by you, and your assessment disagrees with the OP.

Furthermore if you think about the likely mechanism, the thing you incorrectly label as fudge isn't being deposited on the oceans simultaneously. This allows for whatever homeostatic effect to take place. Even thus, we see a discernible increase which you are misrepresenting by bringing in a different report. Classic diversion.

The OP is from Mother Jones and can't be taken seriously. The IPCC is behind all this so-called science that is generating the data that hippie rags like to propagate, in some sort of secular jihadist fashion.

Homeostasis is not a geological term. The planet is in turmoil. That is its normal state in a violent universe.

Not true. Density of ice & water are different. That is why a can of soda explodes if you leave it in the freezer. Something to do with length of the bonds in a crystalline structure.. Chemistry nerds, please feel free to correct me :P

Since, densities are different, volume will be different too because the mass remains constant.

Mass = Density * Volume

You are correct, by about 9%

Fill a glass with ice, then add water to the brim and let it melt. The glass will NOT overflow.

It is funny though that in the past, topics about global warming got all sorts of thoughtful and worrisome responses and now it is just a joke. It has found its natural niche in life.

The study is nothing more than a plea for more money to do more studies. The gravy train derailed in November 2010 and no one is putting it back on track...least if all Obama. Good scientists will move on to work that produces results which earns them money. The welfare scientists will continue to plead for our money to be confiscated and given to them for studies whch produce nothing but the need for more study.

Global warming was never about global warming, it was about subsidizing an unneeded industry with confiscated money and government power.

That's your assessment, as a serious business kind of guy, of course.

But you once again fail at grasping the sequence of things. IPCC is not behind anything, its the science that's behind reports that conclude certain things; which are taken as alarmism by denialist internet pundits that diverge attention from the actual information being discussed. ;)

Homeostasis is not a geological term. The planet is in turmoil. That is its normal state in a violent universe.

Got that from a blog somewhere too? Call it 'balance' then.

I guess the concept of original thought is foreign to a sycophant such as yourself.

Stick to the topic without any purposeful diversions from denialists (such as yourself). If you can't even identify the reason for the adjustment, you can't be expected to stay focused on the topic.

Funny you should use the word "balance" ....

First IPCC, and now an Al Gore reference, funny indeed. Is that all you have or is there an actual on course point you want to make?

The reason for the adjustment was the election of November 2010. The House of Representatives holds the purse strings to all federal spending and taxes. The House was lost to people that understand that Man Made Global Warming does not exist and have ended the steady flow of money confiscated from people that earned being given to "scientists" that were producing nothing...except a reason to increase taxes and government control.

Now they have to scream louder and louder, hoping someone will throw them a lifeline. If the lifeline isn;t thrown soon, then more and more voters will understand that the hoax was a hoax all along when the "crisis" fails to happen year after year. I mean, do you think Al Gore is HAPPY that there have been no major hurricanes since 2005? Normal people are happy about that.

The Chicken Littles of the science world need to run faster and scream louder in a desparate attempt to get someone, anyone, to pay attention to them. No one else is stepping up to the plate. Big surprise. No one else is willing to destroy their economy or way of life to feed junk scientists and grab more political power. No one else is willing to pay poor countries with nothing tangible to offer for "carbon credits", a laughable concept if there ever was one.

The MMGW hoax is dead. Like 8-track tapes, it may take its fans a while to believe it, but more and more people each day realize the sky is not falling and become less and less interested in having their money confiscated to pay for something that doesn't exist.

Those of you that think it is real are free to write checks and mail them where you like.

Greenland ice melts most in half-century: US

By Slim Allagui | AFP – 16 hrs ago

Greenland's ice sheet melted the most it has in over a half century last year, US government scientists said Tuesday in one of a series of "unmistakable" signs of climate change.

"The world continues to warm," the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in a briefing paper for reporters.

"Multiple indicators, same bottom-line conclusion: consistent and unmistakable signal from the top of the atmosphere to the bottom of the oceans."

An annual climate survey, which includes work by scientists from 45 countries, said that ice sheet in Greenland melted at its highest rate since at least 1958, when similar data first became available.

Arctic sea ice shrank to its third smallest area on record, while the world's alpine glaciers shrank for the 20th straight year, the study said.

In line with previous studies, the survey said that 2010 was also one of the hottest years on record.

Last year was either tied for the hottest or the second hottest on record, depending on methodology. But all methodologies used showed the temperature to be at least 0.9 degrees Fahrenheit (0.5 Celsius) above the average recorded in the three decades through 1990.

The survey noted that 2010 was exceptional for its extreme events, including a deadly heat wave in Russia, floods in Pakistan that displaced more than 20 million people and record snowfall in several US cities.

A series of studies have voiced alarm at the rapid pace of melting in the Arctic Ocean, which could lead to a rise in sea levels that threatens low-lying coastal areas and islands.

The Oslo-based Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program said in May that warming in the Arctic was on track to lift sea levels by up to 5.3 feet (1.6 meters) by 2100, a far steeper jump than predicted a few years ago.

Many environmentalists have been disappointed at the pace of diplomacy to fight climate change, with few expecting a major agreement at the next major UN-led talks opening in South Africa in late November.

Former US vice president Al Gore recently accused President Barack Obama of failing to show leadership on climate change, saying that poor coverage of the media had given credibility to skeptics of global warming.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

All those international scientists need to stop sucking Uncle Sam's grant pipeline, because its our tax money that is fueling all this global warming nonsense.
