I will second the suggestion of temp agency. Some agencies focus on office/clerical jobs, some focus in production, etc. so if you prefer certain type of jobs then you might want to do some research on the ones the you saw advertised so you know what you are getting into. Most of general retail positions (cashiers, sales associates) pay peanuts around where I live, $9.00 tops (I believe it's at Sam's Club). You might get better luck at waitressing job since you will get tips.

I hate job hunting. Luckily I found something 6 days after we got here. Now we're focusing on hubby. But I can't beLIEVE how low some of these places are paying! My favorite is when the employer requires a college degree and they're paying $10/hr.

try they require college degree and they're paying $7 or $8 an hour :P Some even less around here! They want a college degree to be a receptionist around here. Its crazy.

Maybe I will look into temp, there was a few adds i saw in the paper that said they were hiring. I shall see.... there is actually some house cleaning services too in the paper that say they pay 8-9 bucks an hour. Anyone have any experience with companies like these? I do not, most of my experiences is Hotel,Waitressing, and Retail.

Just be sure if you go with a temp agency to read your contract carefully. I just landed a fantastic full time position with the company I've been temping with.

What I meant by "unglamarous" is that you generally are not part of the office commaradarie... you are the "temp". That's all.

I worked retail for awhile and all I can say is "ugh". It wasn't for me. Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll find something soon.

I just started a full time job a couple weeks ago. I was told the other day that I'm not allowed to talk to people, unless we're in the break room :P

Ok, so I have another interview with a cleaning house service tomorrow afternoon. It pays about 9 bucks an hour and the hours are from m-f 7:30 - 3:00 ... might not be so bad to get my foot in the door at least... wish me luck you all.

I actually found my job on craigslist. i scan thru it all the time, the missed connections/rant & raves are funny, the barter/sale section is cool, I sold one of ,y 4 wedding gowns on there, and I scroll thru the jobs, most of them are stupid 'work from home' scams

But I came upon 'event coordinator for ew professional development center' and I applied for the hell of it.....Wo0o0o0oho0o0o0 I got the job. Been at it a few weeks now, and it rocks.

on another note, the day I started this job, i got a call from Charter One (I filled out an online application) and they wanted to hire me also...good money, great hours, holidays off etc, but Im more suited for the job I got.

So ya, doesnt hurt to try craigslist, hotjobs and monster. I actually got quite a few interviews for retail with monser and hotjobs, they werent management tho so I didnt take them. I was fortunately in a position to be selective.

Good luck tho!

I got that feeling too at my place although noone actually said as much - more a general feeling awkwardness. Anyway I was interviewed for a permanent position there today after being recommended by my editor - so hopefully....

I'm quite pleased about this - now that the holiday season is coming to an end it seems there's quite a few openings in my field. Have a couple more interviews this week and next, so at least I can keep my options open a little - rather than take the first thing that comes along.

Congrats on your landing a good job! I am the USC, but my husband started his job as an "International Business Coordinator" at a consulting firm 6 days after his GC interview. We used www.indeed.com to find the job. That site lets you search multiple job sites. Check it out. It's very easy to use and you don't need to sign up for the services. The interface is a lot like google's. ...

Best of luck, everyone, and don't get discouraged!

You will never grow old to me, or die, or be lost in any way.
