Hi

I've read here on several posts that sometimes after interview there is more processing that can take several months

However I understand that the I864 (and medical and pcc?) are valid for a year and have to be valid while entering the US

and, that IV visas are issued for 6 months once stamped in passport.

so all this does not quite add up....if the I 864 was signed and sent to NVC several months prior to interview, and if after interview there are more delays, that could also take several months, and then a visa is stamped for 6 months, than the I864 will not be a year old while entering Us, but older.

how is this settled? is a new I864 required during the delays?

is the visa stamped to a lesser time than 6 months? has that ever happened?

or is the rule for one year validity is only from the time the visa is stamped and not from the time the I864 is signed?

The PCC is good for a year but the medical (at least for Guangzhou) is only for 6 months. If there is some delay in processing that extends beyond a year, then I wouldn't be surprised if a new I-1864 and police certificate would be requested as well so be prepared for these. A new medical will be required.

They will not issue the visa if the documents are out of date. They request new documents before issuing the visa.

Every country has different times that police reports are valid, although to the best of my knowledge the medicals are good for six months, so you will have to resubmit anything that has expired. This is why there is a general recommendation that you not get time sensitive documents until you are close to your interview date.

usually an I-864 is current unless a new tax year 'reporting cycle' has started.

example - ya did one in 2010, using tax data from 2009 and prior. Sent it in to NVC in January, 2011.

NVC processing eats up some time, so finally, ya gots an interview date set sometime after 18 April 2011 (the tax year reporting roll over date for 2011) then

you must show new I-864, showing the current tax year data, at the interview.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

that's what I thought, we sent 2009 returns on February 2010 to NVC

interview in June

However the Packet 4 instructions did not mention anything to bring to interview regarding new I864 or tax returns

maybe because people also do extensions till August they do not require anything till August?

unsure about the august date, pretty certain about the 18 April 2011 date.

Bring new I-864 with you for the interview, tell the VO you want to 'swap out' the I-864.

thank you guys, so if I understand correctly, the Visa is always issued for 6 months, if there are any delays and documents expire they will request current documents, but not stamp a shorter visa according to the expiration date of the documents?

They can stamp shorter time too... once in the states it doesn't matter since the VISA is no longer needed.
