Do I need to apply to adopt a child on K2?

My fiancee arrived here in US a month ago with her 2 yo daughter on K1/K2 and I was wondering if I need to apply to adopt the child after my fiancee and I get married? The mother was never married to the father but the child does follow the last name of the father on her birth certificate. If I do need to adopt what government agency do I go to the USA or the Phil government?

You do not have to, but it might be a nice idea; it shows the child that you see her as yours, and can make legal issues easier, for example should something happen to the mother or simply for you making medical and other decisions for the child in an emergency.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
