I submitted my K-1 visa application and they sent me a text confirming they got it on March 9 of this year. Is that the NOA1 ?

What is the NOA2, exactly ? Just a paper they mail saying the application has been approved ? I'm confused about what exactly these things mean.

The NOA2 is USCIS approving the application. Then it is sent on to the NVC and then to the embassy/consulate.

read the guide on the K-1 visa. It will help you understand.

I sent the application February 28, 2011 and they received it March 9, 2011. They sent me a text saying that they received it but I don't recall ever getting a letter saying this or that about it. It's been a little over 3 months and when I check online with the confirmation number they gave me, it says the petition doesn't exist... does this mean that they're processing it or that something is wrong ? I've not gotten anything in the mail requesting more information so I'm unsure.

I'm thinking I should go visit the local Immigration Office to see what's up. I can schedule an appointment.

Oh...

Im not expert (please folks correct me if im wrong..)..but ure supposed to receive a letter in the Mail with ure file number and saying when the gov received ure application NOA.1

we didnt received a text message..im not sure why u did..?

but with ure file number ure supposed to have access to the application and see in which step they are.. if the system doesnt recognize ure number: check twice maybe u are wrong, Or CALL THEM right a way.

Cause u already have been in the process for 3 months and the process takes 5 months and a week (legaly ..it can be less) to be approved..than all depends in embassy, like me im waisting 4 months to get an interview.

The algiers embassy is busy (this is what they say)...so..please check with USCIS..

good luck

Both NOA1 and NOA2 are the means that USCIS communicate with the applicant/ petitioner. Notice of Action -1 (NOA-1) is mailed from USCIS after they received your initial application and NOA2 is also a notification method used to notify the approval of the petition.

Good luck

Simple...

NOA1 = When you send your petition, documents, check, everything to the Service Center (actually USCIS will choose which one your petition will be sent, California or Vermont, depending on where you live), anyway, if you filed another form to receive information/updates from them on your cellphone or email, that's what they did. The NOA1 itself it means that they RECEIVED YOUR APPLICATION AND ACCEPTED IT. Now you have to wait for the APPROVAL.

NOA2 = After sending your petition, being received and accepted by USCIS, and sent to the right service center, they'll now check backgrounds, if everything is okay and correct, check your documents and proofs, etc, and will provide you the APPROVAL, that means your application passed and will be sent to the next step, which it all ends on the interview at the embassy.

Hope I was clear enough, good luck.

I also had the same issue. I sent in the intial application and then received a text message and a letter in the mail, both of which had a receipt number on it. However, when I checked the website and enter the number online, they say there is no such application number. I waited a month before calling and talked to 2 people. The first representative could not find it either as they only had access to the same website I had access to. She then transferred me to another representative who was able to look it up and confirm it was a valid receipt number. She said there was a glitch in the system and that they had to fix each application individually. However, this call was about 2 weeks ago and I still am unable to get any updates online. So if I were you, I would call and just double check that your receipt number is valid. Hope this helps. Good luck!
