Holy cow, Nathan! You were skinny when you first joined VJ! When did your appetite get so cranked up?

If you want to curb your appetite down to a more manageable level, I would try to eliminate all simple carbs from your diet, which is next to impossible to do if you eat out a lot. Just some moderate changes can help though, IMO:

- If you drink regular soda, switch to diet and try to limit it by either drinking water or unsweetened tea as a substitute.

- If you eat regular bread, switch to a whole grain or multi-grain, but still try to cut back altogether.

- If you eat white rice, switch to brown.

- If you eat pasta, switch to whole grain.

And then for eating between meals:

- Almonds, pistachios, even peanuts will give you the necessary good fat and fill you up.

- Drinking a tall glass of water before you eat will also help you to feel full. Drinking lots of water throughout the day is good in general.

The problem with doing too much aerobic exercising is that it will crank up your appetite (read about Michael Phelps daily caloric intake). There have been studies that show athletes' bodies are much more efficient with using up energy (calories) than someone who doesn't exercise as intensely. So I would vary up your weekly exercise routine.

And lastly - get at least 9-10 hours of sleep a day. Lack of sleep not only increases your appetite, but it inhibits your body from effectively burn fat. It's also a big strain on your pancreas and will put you at risk for diabetes as well as heart disease.

Do you have a recent pic? I'm just curious how much different you look from when you first joined the site?

Nutrition aside, perhaps you aren't running far enough...

3 miles = 300 calories (it's nothing).

Can you share a few pointers. I'm sure you are in excellent health, considering you think eating an apple is an healthy choice.

What does your exercise and eating habits look like?

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

You ask for advice, you get it and yet all you provide in return is snark and backhanded compliments.

I gave you my advice. You run 3 miles a few times a week which will burn off a small dessert, yet you are surprised you don't lose weight. Firstly, you aren't running far enough or often enough. Why not sign yourself up for a few 10kms or half marathons? Two words: interval training.

Secondly, diet? Well the pizzas, fries, bread and cake will have to go for a start.

All good advice. There's nothing wrong with getting the munchies after aerobic exercise so long as you eat the right recovery food. High protein is what you want, anything high in sugar (like apples) is to be avoided. Of course the best exercise to burn fat is a mixture of aerobic workouts and combination weight work. But there's no getting around changing diet.

I am being serious. You probably have a rigorous workout routine of 7 days per week and eat less than 2000 calories a day. My clue for this is that you said one time (and again on this thread) that eating an apple is unhealthy.

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

Anything high in sugar will make you want more after a aerobic workout. Eat the apple before you run

How many miles do you run a week? You said 3 miles a few times a week is only 300 calories burned (times 3) and basically nothing...Another guy on here said look to cut 100 to 200 calories a day and I will lose a pound a month.

Are you a serious runner (>20 miles a week)?

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

Yes, when time allows. 5 miles three times a week and a longer one 7 or 8 miles on one of the weekend days. To lose weight you need to cut carbs (though it's fine to eat pasta or something an hour or so before you go out) and eat a high protein meal for recovery. Smaller meals throughout the day helps too.

Cut out bread entirely if you can. And alcohol, if you drink.
