Hey all,

I'm a U.S. Citizen currently going through the K-1 Visa process with a Brazilian citizen, should be receiving the NOA2 anyday now. Right now, trying to see if a co-sponsor would be needed to complete the visa process. Right now, I'm currently working a full-time job which will most likely be ending at the end of July 2011. I do not have a job lined up untill October 2011. I made around $37,000 in 2010. I have $20,000 in savings, plus a $10,000 savings bond. I am only sponsoring one person, my fiancee, through the visa process. Do you think a Co-sponsor will be needed?

you will be present your 2010 tax returns.. no need for you to worry about the 2011 yet.. co sponsor is needed when the income is 125% under the poverty line.

Depending on when your interview is (and how much you are currently earning - at the job that will end in July) - you may not need a co-sponsor.

The comment above regarding not needing to worry about 2011 yet is kind of misleading - you do have to worry about what you're currently earning (at the time of the interview) which is/will-be in 2011.

If you are self employed then the most recent year's (2010) tax return is the income that will be evaluated. If you are a wage/salary earner then current and continuing income is what will be evaluated.

Assets used to make up income shortfall are factored at a 3:1 ratio ($3 assets = $1 income). The income requirement for a 2 person household is $18,387. That's the number you must satisfy.
