Well technically you can bring whatever you want but anything over two large suitcases they are going to make you pay extra for. Also depending on which airline there is only a certain weight your things can weight (maybe 25-30 kilos?) You also can have one carry on bag. You can not take anything on the plane that is liquid, no water, gel, shampoo, nothing like this. For some things (guitar for example) you might want to see how much it is to send it UPS, DHL or something. If you're spending the night in NYC you are not going to want to have a lot of bags to carry. My husband came with 2 suitcases and was overwhelmed, especially if it is your first time traveling. American airports are very large - JFK can be super huge at times! Minneapolis is not as bad but it's also very large. At least by the airports I've seen in traveling through Europe and Morocco American airports are HUGE! So ultimately it's up to you to decide what to take. Check with the airline to see what their weight limits are and what their baggage charges are as well.

Driving privelages depend on the state you live in. Until you become a resident of the state your driver's license should be ok --- just make sure there is an English translation. Laws are different for every state so it's hard for me to say if you can. You may have to take the state driving test, a written test and a driving test or the state may give you a driver's license by honoring the internation license you have. It really depends.

We know what you meant. Considering what our SO's will face at the airport already this is pretty insensitive. Can't you find some sort of hobby that doesnt involve interacting with others? Maybe basket weaving?

Michael....just some advice. When you bring your guitar, make sure to ask them to put it in fragile hold. Then, make sure they do. When I brought mine back from UK, they told me I could take it on board with me and that the attendants would put it in a holding place for me. It didn't happen. My guitar was the last thing to come off the plane. I nearly had a heart attack! Then, we got searched by customs because I was so short tempered with the KLM reps who told me it didn't make it on the plane......because they didn't do with it what they said they would. It was a nightmare!
