Okay, I'm 23yrs old and according to the vaccination requirements I need to have the HPV jab, which'll cost £120.00 if I have it done at Knightsbridge. I was hoping to get it done through my local GP on the NHS, but from what I've read it's a 3-part-vaccination that is done over the course of a year. Eeep! Does anyone know if the one at Knightsbridge is just on single jab and that's it...?

If I remember correctly, the HPV requirement was dropped a while back.

Just an FYI, any vaccination that is in a series needs only be started to be visa eligible...

YMMV

As far as I know, you don't need to get the HVP anymore. I am getting all my vaccinations/serology sorted now and I'm pretty sure its not on the list of vaccinations that I printed off.

You really don't need it. It went from a requirement to optional in December 2009. I know i got caught with this HUGE expense for nothing! Only found out all the info after i had been told i needed it! :(

What form are you looking at? Do you have a link?

Here's the link from the Center for Disease Control concerning immunizations I was looking for. http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/vaccination-civil-technical-instructions.html

Scroll down and notice

Significant Changes in the Vaccination Requirements

Human papillomavirus vaccine and zoster vaccine are no longer required.

All other age-appropriate, ACIP-recommended vaccines continue to be required.

I don't think varicella is widely available in the UK. I believe Knightsbridge can give you the shot. They will also take your word for it if you tell them you had chickenpox. Then you are excused from the varicella shot and your immunization form is marked with VH (meaning varicella history).

I'm looking at the forms on here: http://london.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas/medical-examination.html

I've had chickenpox so I'll be sure to tell them that. I've not had a tetanus booster since 1992, I know here in the UK it's "advised" to have a tetnaus shot ever 10yrs. I'm wondering if it's worth getting the booster just to cover my butt?

I did..

I printed a list of vaccinations that were on the list and went to my normal GP with my little vaccination booklet to show what was already done and he also said HPV was not needed. I got 3 jabs which cost me and arm and a leg but its best to be on the safe side for your medical. I made sure my jabs were up to date before the medical because at first i was told if anything was missing they would do it at the medical. When i went for my medical i got told they DONT do them there and that i was lucky i got them all done before hand otherwise it would have delayed my process

To answer the question about the tetanus booster. It's just one component of the Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis immunization. The other parts must be up to date--within the last 10 year according to USCIS documents relating to approval. Or if DTP series was given as a child, the Td is accepted as a booster without the Pertussis component.

It gets tricky with a GP because he is used to British standards and shots, while you are having to meet American guidelines. My husband went to the GP who looked at the list and said he had a tetanus booster and only gave him MMR. At Knightbridge, they said he especially needed Pertussis because the US (at the time) was experiencing Pertussis resurgence. She went on and on about it, but I've never heard that mentioned in UK Knightsbridge talk since 2008. Anyway, he went back to his GP and got the DTP (baby version) because the teen and adult version (Tdap) was not available in the UK. Somebody has posted their GP refused to give the shot because it was against what they practice in the UK. Some charge for the shots and some give them free. I guess it depends on your GP what you can get and if there is a charge.

Oh---and yes that link for shots is out of date since around November 2009.

So, I dunno what to advise other than USCIS is going to be looking for these shots within the last 10 years:

Td or Tdap (or DT, DTP or DTaP )

MMR

Varicella (or history of chickenpox)

They want all of those within the last 10 years? That's bloody ridiculous, I've got to get all of them re-done.

Edit: Where does it say that they have to have been done within the last 10yrs? All I'm finding is this:

Vaccinations: On the day of the medical examination, the physician will be required to

verify that you have met the vaccination requirement, or that it is medically inappropriate for

the you to receive one or more of the following vaccinations: Hepatitis A; Hepatitis B;

Influenza, Influenza Type B (HIB); Meningococcal, Mumps; Measles; Pertussis; Pneumococcal;

Polio, Rubella Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids; Varicella NOTE: The Varicella vaccination is

not available in the United Kingdom.

I cannot find this "within 10yrs" ruling anywhere.
