When I say 'illegal' I am writing shorthand for 'unenforceable'

If it was my money then opinions such as 'persuasive' or 'tending towards' etc would not be good enough for my peace of mind.

Tsk tsk. Time was you used to pat me on the head and call me a poppet for such legal disquisitions. O tempora, o mores...

Yet another cantankerous anti-american whinge brought to you by captain pedant. Alan, don't you have kids to yell at to get off your lawn? Old people should not be allowed access to the internet.

Nice try but you are an amateur troll

You are supposed to engage the subject and do it that way rather than just use personal stuff

which is crude and transparent

Back to troll school for you buddy boy

Alan, I don't think you quite know what a troll is. You should familiarize yourself with the internet, it can be a rough place. Continue on with your whingeing Alan while everyone else returns to rolling their eyes at you. You might want to practice your cantankerous pedant act a bit more.

Since when did you speak for 'everyone'. You speak only for yourself so don't kid yourself.

Why don't you confine yourself to contributing to the discussion rather than having a poke at people ?

Why aren't you at work ? Is it because they don't change to the lunch menu until 11.30am ?

This is a quote from the Guardian article you quoted above:

One potential technical hitch is that a pre-nup may not be legally binding in the UK; on occasion, English courts have disregarded them. The legal position seems more favourable in Scotland, where a pre-nup has yet to be overturned. However, it is not as though McCartney could have availed himself of the protection of a Scottish pre-nup, irrespective of how much time he is spending at his farmhouse on the Mull of Kintyre

Only the underclass reads the SUN and most of them only do the pictures of breasts and bottoms

It has the highest circulation of any newspaper in Britain - treble that of any broadsheet

The underclass are in the majority in the UK and the USA. A visit to the mall or Walmart confirms that. Vast numbers of the underclass have hungry children and they are involved in drugs and crazy drinking. If they read a paper in England, it will be the SUN

I have seen many SUN readers and many of those were semi literate at best and just looked at the nudes.

The ones who had some reading ability read about alien abductions, flesh eating viruses etc

Anyone who takes their legal advice from the pages of the SUN is bound to come a cropper

However, the BBC is available and gives an educated and informed opinion on most matters and luckily it is available online. A rare resource.

What discussion is there going on here Alan? This thread is nothing more than an old man whining about american customs and colloquialisms. It's fairly obvious that you have no interest in any sort discussion.

I'm actually at work Alan, unlike pensioners, I don't get to spend my day reading reviews of viagra and depends.

So I guess not much separates the 2 countries - we are burdened by cable news, and the UK has the tabloid press.

I suggest you get working then.

Your use of 'age' as an insult is not very appealing - what do you think of your parents ?

I bet they are not too proud of your attitude to older people

Do you sneer at disabled parking spaces too - look at them limping !

You have not contributed one item to this thread otherwise than poking derision at me and using 'age' epithets, so it really isn't worth you diverting your energies from your important 'work'.

Quote:

Newspaper readerships are usually correlated by something called "reading age". Thus the average reading age of a Sun reader is supposed to be 8. But the average reading age of a Guardian reader is allegedly 14. The average reading age of at least half the workforce is 11 or lower supposedly. The only British newspaper that seems to be written with a graduate readership in mind is The Independent according to analysts.

I am working whilst posting Alan, but thank you for your concern. This is the 21st century after all, computers are capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously.

It wasn't intended as an insult Alan, you called me a troll, and I don't think you actually know what an internet troll is, or what it entails. You may have some vague notion what you think it is, but I think quite possibly that your advanced age might preclude you from keeping up to date on some internet phenomena.

I have to ask Alan, why is it that 90% of your posts on here are you simply whingeing about various cultural deviances in the U.S. that irritate you? Are you simply a malcontent, or are you really that miserable here? You might want to utilize the knowledgebase here to try to rectify that situation.
