Visiting the UK for the first time

Good Afternoon everyone! I have a question and I wasn't sure where to post it so I thought I would start here.

My husband(UK citizen)and I(USC)have filed for our I-130 this month and have received our NOA1 dated March 14th, my question is, will I have any problems going through the airport once I land in Amsterdam and then in Newcastle if my passport name does not match my drivers license? I plan on bringing a certified copy of our marriage certificate just in case. Do you think that will be enough if questions arise? I also plan on brining a copy of my 3 most recent pay stubs showing that I have a job in the US and do not plan on immigrating.

Any thoughts or concerns? I would love any feedback!

I've traveled with my passport in my maiden name, and everything else in my married name, only advise is book your plane ticket matching your passport.

July 23rd - 30th, 2008 -- Damian's Mum Comes to the US for our wedding.

July 25th, 2008 -- Wedding Day!

March 16th, 2009 -- AOS Sent

May 8th, 2009 -- EAD & AP Approved (51days)

July 14th, 2009 -- AOS Approved!! (118days)

July 21st, 2009 -- Green Card Received (125days)

No RFEs the whole process :) All done myself.

December 4th - 30th, 2009 -- Visited England

April 8th - 30th, 2010 -- Damian's Brother visits us here in PA.

January 19th, 2010 -- Damian got his PA license.

December 10th - 19th, 2010 -- Visited England

September 16th - 30th, 2011 -- Damian's Parents came to visit us here in PA.

June 1st, 2011 -- Mailed ROC to Vermont.

February 21st, 2012 -- 10 Year Green Card Received

April 14th, 2012 -- N-400 Sent to Dallas Lockbox

November 26th, 2012 – Damian Became a US Citizen!!!

Did you book your airline ticket using the name in your passport or the name on your drivers license? Your airline will want to see your passport and if the name on the ticket does not match the name on your passport, they will not let you board.

The only identification overseas POE inspection personnel is interested in is your passport. Go ahead and bring your evidence you speak of should UK POE personnel decide to question you and want to see it. Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

You are just going to visit your husband in the UK? If so, you don't need any kind of visa for this. Don't even worry about a drivers license (unless you are planning on renting a car) and marriage license. Being the USC there shouldn't be any issues with you visiting the UK under the normal VWP. On the entry card just mark the box for visiting family and all is good.

Thanks for the quick responses! I booked the flight in my married name which is different then my passport name. I leave tomorrow and only hope I have no problems. If I can't get through I will be devistated. My fault though if that happens, I should have been more prepared. Oh goodness.....I hope I don't have any issues. :blush:

I would try calling the airlines to see if they can change the name on your ticket. Some airlines are willing to do this for you if you explain that you made a mistake and put the wrong name on the ticket.

On some self-check kiosks you will need a staff member to let you override the "passport and ticket don't match oh no" thing. But you can travel. Just be prepared that it's possible you'll meet someone at the airline who needs persuading of that fact ;)

You'll be fine in the UK. If you have the NOA1 that will be great evidence that you are DEFINITELY not planning on moving to the UK!

Thanks so much for the advice. I called the airlie and was able to get the name changed on the confirmation....for a fee of course. I would rather pay that then be out my entire ticket price. She did confirm that I would not be able to board if I hadn't changed the name to match the passport.

I got what she was saying. I'm in the same boat - I've changed my driver's license over to my married name (just came up for regular renewal and had it changed then), as well as my SSN and most credit cards, but I simply don't feel like paying the US government another $150 or so to have my passport changed to my married name. So I keep my passport and one credit card in my maiden name, make all international airline reservations in my maiden name, and carry my marriage license as a backup.

I guess the OP made her airline reservations in her *new* (married) name, but hadn't changed her passport yet. Because of the major travel restrictions these days, she had to change the reservation/ticket to her maiden name in order to board. Simply showing her married name driver's license, maiden name passport, and marriage certificate probably is no longer sufficient to allow her to travel internationally. Domestically, it should not be a problem (at least it hasn't been for me - yet).

Men have it so easy sometimes!! ;)
