k1 expiration date

hi i cant find the answer to my question..so i just gonna post it here..

i was approved feb4 and got the lettr from USEM feb 23. i just wondering when will my NOA2 gonna expire.. where i gonna find the expiration date? coz i didnt sched my interview yet.

Usually the NOA2 petition is good for 4 months but the expiry date is along the top of the NOA2. Have you received any information from your consulate or called the Department of State to get an update?

I was told by the embassy that it is initially good for 4 months from issue date, but they will automatically extend it for up to 1 year.

Are consulates usually okay with that?

It depends on the consulate and the reason behind the extention. They have automatic extentions when the consulate does not have an interview date within the 4 months of the NOA2. You should post something in the regional form or email/call the embassy and ask them about it and see what their policy is.

From everything I've seen on this site, it's not that big a deal to push the interview back once or twice. If you really want to drag it out, wait to return your P3 documents until a few weeks before the 4 months is up. The validity period will be automatically extended with no questions asked. When it's time to book an interview, check and see if you can reschedule with no penalty (for Montreal, for example, the system says appointments can be rescheduled as often as you'd like until a convenient time is found). And then of course, once you have the visa, you have 6 months to use it...
