Hey Yall,

Got my visa a couple weeks ago and plan to move tomorrow from the Montreal airport. I got my passport back and a sealed envelope from the DHL. Is there anything else I should know when at the port of entry? Do i need to bring anything else with me other than my passport and that sealed envelope?

Any documents??? What can I expect to be questioned and usually how long is the questioning?

Also**** When I check in at the airport, should I be showing the airport clerks my Canadian page in the passport or the visa page in the passport??

Soorry for all the questions! just dont wanna screw this last part up!

thanks for any help!

The Consulate that approved your visa should have instructed you on what you need to have when traveling. If not you should contact them so they can give you the correct information.

When you get to Customs & Immigration you will show them your visa and tell them you are moving to the US. They will send you to secondary where you will hand over the sealed envelope, fill in forms, and take your biometrics. There shouldn't be any type of "questioning" other than the basics. Canadian_Wife has given you the link to the POE reviews. I am going to move your thread from the General Immigration Discussion over to the Canada Regional Forum. Congratulations. :)

Take a look at their visa type.

I have a CR-1 visa - i'm already married. The consulate agent didnt really tell me anything other than how to pick up my passport back from the DHL. I guess all I really need is the sealed envelope and my passport. Thank you!!!

Its a pretty painless procedure! Like anything else, most of ur time is spent waiting and waiting, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I got asked like really general questions when we drove down(k-1).. just asked if its a long trip, if i'm excited etc nothing serious and such it was just while they had to go through the papers and do up the I-94 so we didn't stand in silence I guess lol. One guy was comparing the weather from Ottawa to Nebraska and stuff joking about all the brown grass in nebraska etc. POE is relatively easy, its just them that have the paperwork to do lol

Yeah no i-94 for spousal visas, they will probably not ask you much of anything.

When we drove through Ny They just asked me if the address was correct for the address to send my greencard.

Ok im a little worried - went throught the POE in Montreal...everything went well. Gave them the sealed envelope and the guy filled out tons of paperwork. After that he took a fingerprint and i signed something. That was it. No papers or anything, he just sent me off to my flight. Was i supposed to recieve something saying i have a green card? I have a job offer and they want me to work right away? can I not work yet???? HELPPP!!!!

Thats it!! k1'ers get an I-94, but as a CR-1//ir-1, you do not!! The "stamp" (I-551) acts as ur greencard! Its sort of boring after all the hassles one goes through, lol

If u checked th3e box on thew DS230 for the SSN--theoretically it should arrive in the Mail!! BUT--quite often it does NOT! SOOOOO after 10-14 Business days (u can try a bit sooner) NO SSN card--goto ssa.gov http://ssa.gov/online/ss-5.html download and fill out the form!!! Then head to ur local SSN office-(-along with ur passport and birth cert for ID) and inquire about UR SSN---if ur in the system sweet, they may be able to verbally tell you the SSN #. IF not hand them the already filled out form! Should arrive 1 to 2 weeks later in mail!

What some other have had to was work--but not get the actual $$$$ until they get the SSN #. Best of luck
