So are you gonna lighten the cabinets? What color are you thinking of for the kitchen?

Light blue for the bathroom sounds nice.

There's a colour called Mountain top here: http://www.lowes.com/pd_144501-86-D452MOUNTAINTOP_4294856872+5003694+4294963166+4294791316_4294937087_?productId=3325492&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl_Grays_4294856872%2B5003694%2B4294963166%2B4294791316_4294937087_%3FNs%3Dp_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1&facetInfo=$1%20-%20$5|Olympic|Grays (which looks different on my computer to the actual colour) that I was thinking for the walls. The room would look too dark if the walls were a dark colour (I initially was thinking a green but I think grey will match nicely with the current countertops). The cabinets though I was thinking (from that website I mentioned before) the Tudor colour. Again it looks different on my screen to the actual colour and it's not fully decided yet but I think it should look really nice. Right now our fridge and over are white but our other appliances are usually black and silver.

I think white cabinets would be okay if there weren't so many and if the countertop wasn't white.

What do you think??

OK this thread is a few weeks old, but I just want to say - what do you mean, "it's hard to get colors that work with wood"?

Wood isn't a color in a decorating scheme. It's an architectural feature and it's contribution to the design is usually texture. Unless of course you slap paint on it, which doesn't appear to have occurred in your house.

Therefore it's also hard for me to imagine why you consider the wood to be "orange".

I think you are going to have an awfully hard time trying to pick paint colors when you clearly can't discern color.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

The wood IS orange due to the age of what the wood was coated in. My FIL does this sort of thing for a living and it's quite common knowledge that this happens. The wood underneath is gorgeous but I need to sand it all to remove the top coat but due to the sheer enormity of the project I won't do that for a while. The pictures I uploaded don't show the colour correctly. The screen you view it on won't show the same for each person viewing it due to your monitor settings. Each person that has visited our house has commented on the orange-ness of the wood as well as the sheer amount of it found in our house. I don't hate wood, I just don't like the orange tone.

The COLOUR of the wood IS a colour in a decorating scheme. You quite obviously have no idea what you're talking about. There are different colours of wood which dictate what colour you should paint the walls. If you paint a wall white the colour of the wood is emphasised. Picking a colour opposite on the colour wheel (to the colour of the wood) or next to it yields different effects. Go ask someone that knows a little something about home decoration and ask them.

As for my "eye for colour"... once again you make assumptions that have no basis in fact.
