Visa Validity

7 posts in this topic

Dears,

I know that visa validity (when applying through DCF) should be 6 months from date of issue.

I knew from a friend of mine that he have just got his visa, valid for 2 months only from date of issue!!!

I'm wondering how can this happens & how can I avoid such situation?

this is because I have lots of hanged issues here in Egypt to be finished after getting the visa in hand.

I submitted packet 3 (DS-230, I-864, police record, DS-3032, medical reports,...etc.)

Please advise

Your visa is valid for 6 months not 2. If you don't intend to use the visa in 6 months you may be able to request a delay, depending on the consulate.

Ir is usually 6 months (that is the max), but can be less. If less, it is usually because the medical was done significantly before the interview, and the visa expiry date used is 6 months after the medical.

CR-1

I have heard of it being less than 6 months before but that was for medical reasons. Usually the medical report is valid for 12 months, unless the TB test comes back positive or other issues arise, in that case it makes the validity of the report shorter, and would explain why his visa is only valid for 2 months. If everything came back fine for you I wouldn't worry about it.
