Hey y'all,

I have just recently filed the I-129F on behalf of my German fiancée. I received my NOA1 already.

Julia (my fiancée) and I are hoping that she can visit the States for about a 6 to 7 week period beginning in late-April. We want to do this primarily so that we can receive pre-marital counseling, which is of utmost importance to us. Julia would return to Germany by mid-June, and our wedding (i.e. our religious ceremony in Germany) is not going to be until sometime between August and October.

My question is in regards to the wisdom in doing this. I mean, do we run a risk of Julia missing an appointment with the consulate in Germany? From what I understand, a several week notice can be given for interviews. We don't want anything to delay our process any further.

There are probably other concerns that I am just not thinking of right now. Have any of you gone through similar circumstances? What did you do?

Be sure that the ceremony that you are considering in Germany cannot be seen as an actual wedding.

If you hold yourselves forth as married to the public after this ceremony then she may have a hard time at the interview claiming to be a fiancee rather than a spouse.

Unless you get lucky, you can expect to be waiting 5 months just for the petition to be processed. Only then will it go to the consulate. And until they have received her Packet3 paperwork, they will not schedule an interview.

You can't marry in Germany. Under the fiancee visa Julia would need to enter the US on the K1 visa single and free to marry within the 90 day window.

After that and attending to her adjustment of status you could have a 2nd wedding in Germany however the first one would need to be here.

Good luck with your journey :D
