All documentation establishing your eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident status ...

What does that mean? What kinds of things should I be bringing with me?

Thanks in advance!

start with bringing your husband, that always helps your case.

You should collect and copy all evidence to prove you are a couple.

1. Bank Statements

2. Medical / Life Insurance policies

3. Rent agreements

etc etc.....

AOS interviews are a breeze, for me the K1 interview was alot tougher.

Plus bring anything else that will help you case, other documents, pictures, etc. Bring originals like B.C., D.C. and a complete copy of your AOS package.

The instructions for the I-485 application talk about eligibility:

Based on admission as the fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen and subsequent marriage to that citizen.

You may apply to adjust status if you were admitted to theUnited States as the K-1 fiancé(e) of a United States citizenand you married that citizen within 90 days of your entry.

If you were admitted as the K-2 child of such a fiancé(e), youmay apply to adjust status based on your parent's adjustmentapplication.

So for a K-1, marriage certificate would be the critical item here. Bringing the spouse is important, too, but the existence of that person at your side is not proof specifically of eligibility.

Proof of the validity of the marriage is lower down on the list I believe (this is where bills, bank accounts, titles to cars, etc... become germaine).

Best wishes!

I tried to add: Any documentation (or other evidence... ) of a valid marriage is important, but proof of ELIGIBILITY for K-1's is the marriage certificate.

And since Addie said "seriously", I'll throw in my 2 cents and say, in case anyone might actually contemplate following that advice, that I think AOS is a really lame reason to conceive a child... and totally unfair to the child. Don't even THINK about getting pregnant unless you and your spouse have given it a lot of thought and make a mutual decision to do that. I'm positive that thousands of people have adjusted just fine without having conceived a child.

Best wishes!

Maya

Bwahahahahah! Might be tough, as my interview is tomorrow but thanks for the advice. :)

(even though, I have to say I agree with Maya, it is kind of a bad idea to get preggers JUST for the AOS ... )
