I have never had an abortion but I have had to make the decision to end the life of my child after birth.. I am sure most of you know the story but here are the basic details...

a few years back I went into premature labour around 23 weeks... he looked like a baby just really small, he weighed around a pound or so... He was immediately put on life support and lived for 12 days but it was too hard to keep him stable and he had a level 4 brain bleed which meant he had brain damage so we had to make the decision to take him off life support... to this day I wonder if we made the right decision..

***********

one of the nurses there told us that girls born young seem to have more of a chance of a survival... not sure why that would be..

Not just that, but notice the angle of the picture. They'd look a lot less human if taken from the top. The skull doesn't fully close until much later.

While that might be true, clearly it is human enough to have a least as much protection as..... the egg in the nest of an endangered Bird.

I wouldn't go this direction, one could argue that the weight of the human population is causing said bird to be endangered

 @ Rob

Simpson - the reason it becomes illegal beyond a certain number of weeks is because after that time a fetus is viable outside of the womb. this typically happens around 24-27 weeks but they rarely live if born at 24 weeks.

What about being viable outside the fetus suddenly makes it morally unacceptable to abort?

It's the codpiece I wear.

No answer?

Would synthetic wombs make abortion obsolete? Like you stick the embryo in the easy bake oven and wait a few months?

I would be for it.

Even the woman who had a man's support but lost it?

If a guy leaves a pregnant woman and she's not able to care for it on her own, isn't she morally obligated to abort it?

I dont believe there should be a price tag on infants. If they cant take care of it the system needs to take the child away. If the system fails fix the system.

The little critter might actually live, so some effort might be needed to make sure it doesn't.

Yes with the assistance of a slew of doctors and nurses. The baby is pretty much just as helpless and this is just as morally wrong in my book.
