Hi all,

Just wondering weather anyone has any suggestion or similar experience.

We have filed in Jan 2005 (sent all the paperwork to Chicago), had interview in October 2005 and have been waiting ever since.

Recently we have requested update on our case and we have received an email that they are waiting for the background check.

At the interview the officer told us the same thing. Once the background checks are done the application will be approved, she said.

It's been almost 600 days since we filed and NOTHING is happening.

I had renewed my work permit. I have e-filed it but it's never been processed so after 3 months I went to local immigration (NYC) and got work permit that day but it was only valid for 8 months. I asked about that and they said the the original one should still come in mail. On the portfolio it has not been touched since 2/17/2006.

Anyway now the 8 months is going to expire as well. How do I get the 12M or do I have to yet apply for 3rd one already.

We have called lawyer to ask if there is anything we can do (we have filed without one). They told us at this point we just have to wait at least until year from the interview (Oct 6th) to file a law suite to request a decision.

Anyone has similar experience... Is there anything at all we can do?

Can I get another 4 months on that work permit...

This seems that it's never going to end.

Please help!!!

Luc :help:

Have you spoken to your senator? Sounds like it might be time to get senators, congresspeople, anyone you can involved!

Alternatively, you could go to the media.... Might not accomplish much, but it might make you feel better. You know, one of those "human interest, look we're doing this legally and you're talking about letting all the EWI aliens stay" stories....

:star:

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

that is the thing, even though we live in NYC my husband is registred voter in DC. So he is not sure who we should go to, he said DC itself does not have one.

Does it matter or can we contact someone in NYC you think...

Thanks so much ChristinaM and almaty (F)

IF you live in NYC (house/apt lease, bills, NY work, NY taxes... you are represented by NY congressmen) find who your congress rep is, look at their website and call their office - they will either set up an appointment to come in, or ask you to mail/fax in your case. Prepare a copy of your case documents and a letter of explanation of your case, including a release form which says you give them authority to investigate your case. Most of them have an example form, if not look on Schumer's or Clinton's website for an example... but congresspeople are usually a bit more responsive, so I'd go to them.

I know it's been super frustrating... Calling the help line gets you absolutely nowhere...

By getting an Infopass I have only found out that the case has been sent to California (from NY) after the interview...

It was sent on 11/18 and I have received notice from CA that they have received it on 4/24 ... any idea where it was for 5 months...

Anyway... Thanks all again for your support and patience

Hugs Luc
