Hey everyone, while I'm waiting for our NOA2 I'm just trying to get some documents together. My fiance has his original birth certificate from Lagos State, it has a blue stamp on it and it is a small(ish) piece of paper. (About 4-5 inches long and about 8 inches wide). Now seems I recently read somewhere that the US Embassy wants the "Long Form" of the birth certificate. Does anyone know what they really need and would the original one that he has (I'm assuming it's the "short" version, although going only by size)? If we do need this "long form" can anyone tell me exactly what it looks like? And if that is the version he needs, can anyone tell me where in Lagos (V.I. or Ikoyi preferably) he can obtain it? Thanks for any and all help.

He will need the long form. My husband had the short one and was told that the US Embassy will only take the "long" version he should just go to the local govt office on VI or in Ikoyi and tell them what he is needing and they will know exactly which one he needs. The long form is more like a rectangle and the short version is more like a square :) It is not difficult to get....Good luck :thumbs:

Short form ones tend not to include full information about parents USCIS wants to have this in case you file later to bring them over.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Oh okay, but the one he has I guess is a rectangle but it's not as big as say a whole sheet of paper. It has his parent's names on it, but what extra information is included in the long form? Thanks again.. I am sending him a message as we speak to go and get the long form asap!

It is not the size of a whole sheet of paper (8.5x11) No......

Usually the short versions only name the parents and the long has the parents DOB and usually place of birth/home city .

FH is in Nigeria now. He just got his BC. I pray it's the long form..aka the correct one. :lol: He did say they told him it is the one he needs for the interview and that it's two pages that they stapled together. It cost him 5000 or 5500 naira. Does that sound about right?
